Intro
All videos show platinum medals, which require no-damage runs. These aren't necessary for any achievement or item. If you only care about getting the gold medals, follow the same steps but you're allowed to take a small amount of damage, from around 3 on early stages to 10 on later stages.

In general: if you're content with gold, wear the highest defense/spirit armor you have. If you want plats, you can't take any hits so you might as well wear attack-boosting gear, as all hits deal at least 1 damage regardless of your defense value. The exception is the aluminum guard and the element bands, which negate damage of one type.

Once you have the final armor from the Purgatory levels, it serves as the best in both attack and defense.

Some videos have more tips in the YouTube description than appear on the page here, so check there for stages you're stuck on.

I couldn't have made it through these platinums without the help of a few ancient fan sites I dredged up from the era of the original Japanese release.

This site[web.archive.org] wrote hints for every stage, and drew amazing maps showing where enemies spawned under certain circumstances. Unfortunately, it's now only on archive dor org, and most of the maps are missing.

This Japanese wiki[w.atwiki.jp], however, is still up and hosting most of those maps!

This Chinese walkthrough[kissjojo99.com] includes the maps, including those missing from the wiki, and is the where I learned the secret of Woods lv4. (For subsequent stages, just increase the number in the URL, up through 359.)

Finally, this fan site[rcktrncn.github.io] has a great database of other game info, including boss hints and item locations.
