Maestro's Mount Fix Guide[obsidianconflict.net]

The guide in the above link is updated occasionally and might contain more information then this guide does. You can also set up a dedicated server using the linked guide, if you're interested. For the purpose of simplicity, this guide only covers getting the client (that's you) up and running to the point you can run a listen server and play with friends.

Automated Mount Fix Installer[obsidianconflict.net]

The above link has an automated installer that is supposed to do all the hard work so you can just get into OC. However, it’s not perfect, some people complain that it flat out doesn’t work.
Note that this guide assumes you’re starting out with all the games you want in OC already downloaded, installed, and launched once. It won’t prepare them for you.

The automated installer can also download a dedicated server setup for you. It works out of the box and comes with a few extras, like SourceMod, setup and ready OOTB for you (remember to add your steamID to the admin file!)

You'll need these two things to use the automated installer:

• .NET 4.5[www.microsoft.com] (which requires...)
  
• .NET 4.0[www.microsoft.com](If you've played Terraria, you have this already thanks to Steam.)

Something else of importance to note: This guide will also fix other mods that require GCF mounting, such as Nightmare House 2. This guide is aimed at Obsidian Conflict only, but you might give those sourcemods a shot again after following this guide.

Installation of Obsidian Conflict is suprisingly very simple!

You do need these things in your Steam Account for the game to even work, however:

• HL2 (or install TF2, but doing this without HL2 installed is a BAD idea)
  
• Any one of these games (Optional, but the most the better): HL2:EP1, HL2:EP2, HL:S, HL2:LC, CS:S, DOD:S, Portal
  
• Source SDK 2007. You need one of the listed games for this to show up, but it will appear in your library after installing. To find it, go to your Library, click on the "Games" dropdown, and put a checkmark on "Tools".

Got everything you need? Good. You need the installer, available here: http://www.moddb.com/mods/obsidian-conflict/downloads/obsidian-conflict-135-full-installer

Run the installer, from the drop down menu select "Client", continue on with installation.
There may be an error at the very end of the installation with it mentioning a Model Pack, ignore the error as the mirror it is trying to download from no longer exists and is not necessary for the game itself.

Afterwords, you're going to need to restart steam for it to show up in your library, then start Obsidian Conflict, closing it when you get to the main menu. You're almost finished.

Next, grab this zip file:

and unzip to steamapps/sourcemods/obsidian, replacing any files Windows asks you about.

Launch obsidian conflict, get to the main menu, then close it again to update to Steampipe(-ish) mounting and continue.

Note: This only has to be done once, unless you have to reinstall all of your games, or there is a big update from Valve.

Install GCFscape[nemesis.thewavelength.net]. It's a simple 5-click install so no guide there.

Install (and launch once) every Source '07 game you want mounted in Obsidian Conflict. For reference, Source '07 games are listed in the section above, under "Optional". TF2 is not a Source '07 game, but provides Source '07.

DELETE THE FOLLOWING FOLDERS:

Part 1
Go to the following paths. Every .vpk that has a filename ending in "_dir" should be extracted to the same directory the .vpk is in.

• Half life 2 (Yes, you need to do this one too): Steamapps\Common\Half-Life 2\hl2

Part 2
Now, you need to run a Command Prompt as admin. Start Menu, type "cmd" (no quotes), right-click the Command Prompt, click Run As Admin.

For every game you extracted the VPK of, run the respective command:

After this step, launch Obsidian Conflict, find the "game mounts" options and check the box of every game you just extracted the VPK of. It's normal to experience a large amount of lag after checking each box, or after clicking the 'OK' button to accept the mount changes.

Finally, restart Obsidian Conflict, one last time.

You're done! At this point, you, and whoever else follows this guide, can now play Obsidian Conflict!

Now all the vanilla stuff that comes with OC is fun, but what if you want more?
This site hosts extra maps for OC. http://mapdb.obsidianconflict.net/
To add a map:

• There will be at least one .bsp in a zip file, or maybe JUST a .bsp file. Copy this to the maps directory, on both the client and server side.
  
• Some maps include extra models or extra textures. In those cases, a readme will usually be included. Drop those files in the relevant named folders (and no, not in mods; that’s for something else entirely.)
  
• There may be a file named oc_MAPNAME_modify.txt. This file is sometimes optional, but usually it isn’t, and it’s only relevant to the server. Usually it’s used to edit maps without requiring a whole new version, for example to fix a broken trigger or add some extra difficulty. If you’re hosting from inside Obsidian Conflict (you see things other than a console in the window), this file is for you. If you’re hosting outside OC, (you see only a console), this file is for the server. If you're not hosting at all, you don't need to care about this file. Drop it in the mapadd folder INSIDE maps.
  
• To add the map to the server lobby, you need to open /maps/mapadd/oc_lobby_modify.txt and follow the instructions inside that file.

MapDB Pack One

This pack contains:

• 89 individual maps for Obsidian Conflict.

To install this one, simply extract it to steam/steamapps/sourcemods/obsidian/maps. Note that one or two of the maps in this pack might be outdated, so make sure you and the host are using the same maps.

Complete Playermodel Pack

This pack contains:

• Customization options.
  
• 200+ playermodels. Play as Homer, the TF2 Sniper, PBJ Banana, or more!

To install this one, extract it to /steam/steamapps/sourcemods/obsidian. Some people have had issues with this, so just to be clear: You don’t need to install this pack. If you don’t, then you’ll see other people as generic half life 2 rebels, but if you do, then you can see other players as how they see themselves.

Please note: If you used the automated installer and got black and purple checkers or can't launch Obsidian Conflict, or any other issue not listed here, it'd be helpful if you reported the issue in the forum thread where you got the installer. Otherwise, it won't get fixed.

Nobody’s perfect. Here’s some extra questions answered:

This is the infamous bug that struck down most of classic Steam multiplayer. To fix this “bug”, do these things in order:
• Close all Steam windows.
  
• Make sure you remember your Steam password.
  
• Kill Steam’s process.
  
• Go to Steam's directory.
  
• Delete clientregistry.blob.
  
• Open Steam.
  
• Log in.
  
• Steam will take a little extra time to log in. This only happens once.
  
• Play Obsidian Conflict without launching anything else.
If you did everything correctly, you’ll have a new valid UserID Ticket. They used to last a day but recently, reports have been cropping up that UserID tickets have been lasting for weeks, months, even years.

Most likely you’ve forgotten to mount the additional games. Disconnect from the server and redo Part 2, starting from the second to last paragraph.You might also double-check if you've prepared (which means installed, ran once, extracted the content of, and mklink'd) the games in question.

Either Source SDK 2007, Obsidian Conflict, or both are incorrectly installed or need to be validated. Keep in mind if you reinstall Source SDK, then you’ll need to re-prepare all of your game content.

This really only affects you if one of two things are true:

• You join games from Steam's Servers window and use the filter options to find servers you want.
  
• You play HL2:MP and use the filter options to find servers you want.

If either are true, you need to reset your server filters.

Resetting Steam Server filters

• Right click the Steam icon in your taskbar.
  
• Click on "Servers".
  
• Click on the "Change Filters" button.
  
• Click on the "Map" text entry and empty it. It needs to have NOTHING in there, not even a space.
  
• Click on all the dropdowns and change them to say "All".
  
• Uncheck all three checkboxes.
  
• Click on "Change Filters" again to save your new filters.

Resetting HL2:MP filters

• Open HL2:MP.
  
• Click "Join Server".
  
• Click the "Filters" button.
  
• Click on the "Map" text entry and empty it. It needs to have NOTHING in there, not even a space.
  
• Click on all the dropdowns and change them to say "All".
  
• Close HL2:MP. Closing the filters doesn't matter, they've already been saved.

The server you're trying to connect to is using an ancient server install. Ask the server owner to recreate the server in SteamCMD. The automated mountfix installer is able to do this for you!

Yep. An unofficial solution for this has been found: For whatever reason, oc_paysan_b11 is near-criminally insane and ignores all mount settings (including the recommended fix of "put a _mounts file that says mount episode 2"). You need to copy ALL episode 2 files into obsidian conflict DIRECTLY, like you would install a content pack.

You probably had Windows ask you if you wanted to overwrite some stuff, and clicked Yes. Don't do that.
