This Guide was made for every Control players there who are doing the Vending Machine Achievement and also suffering like me. this Guide only contains all location of the vending machine and can be used as a checklist before you fast travel or reload the game.

Are you doing the Vending Machine Altered Item achievement currently?
are you currently annoyed at how this Altered Item is a complete RNG?

very well, i made this guide cause like you, i am also annoyed by this achievement
also i know this guide was around 1-2 years late from the game release

clarification: this guide was only made as a checklist for all Vending Machine Location in Game. I look up a lot of guide and i never saw anyone provided the location for all Vending machine aside to the Operations Center and to the Abandoned Offices Vending Machines. so before you fast travel or quit and reload the game, i am going to tell you, that there are more vending machines there
Vending Machines
in my journey of finding all of these Machines, i found around 14 vending machines scattered around Investigations section and i'm sure i missed some other Vending machine so if you find any location of Machine that i never found, please let me know at the comment section

Vending Machine 1: Sector Head Office, just before the Checkpoint
Nearest Control Point: Sealed Firebreak
note : there are chances Hiss will spawn at this location so yeet them first

Vending Machine 3: Abandoned Offices, before the security Checkpoint, After the Firebreak if you are facing toward to the Office

Note: it is near to the Vending Machine 3

Vending Machine 5: Abandoned Offices, near to the hallway going to the Service tunnel
Nearest Control Point: Abandoned Offices
Note: in my experience, this one has a high chance of becoming Altered Item so if i were you, i'll keep my eye on it

Vending Machine 6: Operations Center, Upper Floor
Nearest Control Point: Operations Corridor

Vending Machine 7 and 8: Operations Center, Upper Floor
Nearest Control Point: Operations Corridor, Active Invetsigations
Note: the lcoation of this is in the other side of the Vending Machine 6, between these machines is the control room of the Operations Center, these two, along with the Vending Machine 6, are also a popular location for hunting the Machines

Vending Machine 10: Fra Mauro AWE wing, located near the Elevator
Nearest Control Point: Fra Mauro AWE Entrance
Note: you can't miss this one because you cannot pass the wing without breaking the door with this at front

Nearest Control Point: Fra Mauro AWE entrance
Note: This is located near both Machine 12 and 10

yeah that is a really good advice. since this is very RNG-ey, you just had to be really patient or just do this as like, secondary objective to whatever you are doing at that time

I know control is 5y old now but just wanted to add some advice here, So as Wyda said on an earlier comment here, the game picks a single machine to be "the one" out of all the ones shown here on the map. The thing is though, from what I've seen when you kill one, the whole sector needs to be reset (either by loading another sector or going to title menu) in order to force the game to pick a new machine. I never got "two" by re-running the same route(on the same load) after a vending kill. So don't waste time, when you finish the 14 and get your (1) kill, hop to another sector then back to the investigation sealed firebreak and re-start your 14 machine run.

I found a very consistent a quick method. An altered machine (almost) always spawn between 3 points; one of the three machines in abandoned offices, one of the three machines in operations centre and the only one in AWE Loading Bay. Just Keep teleporting between those three and quit out to the menu to reset the chances. I unlocked the achievement in aprox. 5 minutes.

I actually found that you need to go back further to Finnish Tango to restart AWE and push forward to the operations control room. Then reset the mission again.

The other advice to reset Endgame was not enough to reset AWE. It seems that if you Kill Hartman then you are soft locked without the reset. Other guides on doing the rotation yielded no results. I am not sure of the RNG rate, but in my experience I ran the rotation from the firebreak to active investigations more than a dozen times and when I finally reset I got 2 machines each reset before I got to operations even once.

OMG finally got one lol not sure if the update shook something up or a mod I'd installed (removed all cause I was suffering major stuttering not to mention at least one, the change outfits anywhere, was outright glitching the control point menu) had been stopping them or if RNGesus finally chose to smile on me lol ok now to finish the DLC and do a few returns to menu to make sure I get enough for the achievement...

that's the thing, you wont even notice the vending machine is possessed until you tried to telekinesis it or shoot it, its more of a trial and error which makes the achievement more annoying to get
