The Zombies Innerworks
由 mage 制作
A bite sized guide that mainly details the zombie's attacks, animations and speed values of the game.

CORRECTIONS

• The two-handed attack (C) is composed of two different attacks. The first one (two hands) deals double damage for both zombie types (30 for shamblers, 40 for runners). The second one (one hand) deals normal damage (15 for shamblers, 20 for runners). Therefore, if you get hit with both attack animations, you will receive 45 damage from a shambler and 60 damage from a runner instead of 30 and 80.

• Burning zombies do not deal double damage, they deal the same amount of damage they did before catching fire, both shamblers and runners. The official NMRiH guide claims they do double damage but it's wrong.

Also, it would be nice if you could clarify a few more things that are not that intuitive for most players:
- All bites deal 15 points of damage, regardless of enemy type
- Only bites can infect you, hand attack will only lower your HP
- Zombie children can't bite you, therefore cannot infect you

Cheers to Holy Crap for pointing those out!

Animations
All animations vary in speed, they aren't frozen in one value.

walk1, walk4, walk6, walk8, walk9, walk10: Varies a lot in speed, the most common set of animations in a horde.

walk2, walk3, walk5, walk7, crawl, run (runner), run (children): The ones you should definitely watch out for, all these animations are consistent in speed except runner speed.
Attacks
Each zombie attack delivers a certain amount of damage. runners ALWAYS does more damage than a regular zombie.

  • attackA: The weakest attack, it can only finish a survivor if he's severely wounded, low bleed chance.
  • attackB: Combo attack, medium damage in general. A runner can really mess up a survivor or even finish one off at medium health.
  • attackC: Devastating attack if a runner does it, will finish off a fairly healthy survivor instantly.

Crawlers and children has some difference when it comes to damage, see below
Tips
  1. Walk_7: Always take down the zombie with the walk7 animation first, you may not notice but they are still pretty fast for a shambler. Especially if you're doing a objective such as using a welder to unlock a door in cleopas or using the fire extinguisher to clear the fire in broadway.

  2. Infection Chance: Taking two or three hits of a shambler and getting bitten after that, it's very likely that you'll be infected, depending of the difficulty.

  3. Brightness vs Crawlers: Brightness is your friend against a crawler, I like to play in windowed mode since that I use the "no-browser" option for steam, since the new interface just eats the ram. But because of that, they blend-in/camouflage with the scenario pretty well, specially in dark areas.

  4. Children: Their hitboxes can be a joke sometimes, especially in animations. When they stop for a moment that's the perfect opportunity for the survivor to strike.

  5. Tricking the overlord: The overlord is basically the L4D2 AI director for the zombies, NMRIH has its own version and its very easy to fool it. If the players see a completely overrun area (nmo_fema's underground crank door for example) they can backtrack all at once and trigger zombies to spawn in the new area, thus clearing the swarmed area instantly.

Also, zombie children deal 8 points of damage instead of 7 and that's the only damage number they have, no difference between attack animations.

Hey! I just got a notification that you added my corrections to your guide. I'm glad that I could help you out, but since I posted that comment I've discovered that shamblers don't deal double damage with their two-handed attack like runners do. So, in short, shamblers ALWAYS deal 15 damage, regardless of what attack they do (one hand, two hands or bite), they don't share the same behavior that runners have.

Here's the link to my complete guide to NMRiH in case you find it useful to add more stuff in your guide: https://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1536868150

Just wanted to add a couple of corrections:

The second one (one hand) deals normal damage (15 for shamblers, 20 for runners). @AR From ArmaLite You can see them do the grab animation but you dodge it doing that
ArmaLittle 2021 年 2 月 21 日 上午 10:37
I would add another tip: if you jump zombies can't grab you, you will force them to perform any of the attacks A, B or C. Jumping can be useful when passing near zombies to prevent them from grabbing you, which can have a very bad outcome if you're moving in a crowded area, also you might dodge the attack if you are running while you jump.
