During the months following the Cease Fire Agreement signed after the winter clashes in the Hellanmaa province, the Aland separatists have assembled a considerable mechanized force westward of Virolahti through deceptive means, shipped in parts under the guise of commercial transport.

Now that foul play by part of certain foreign powers has become clear, NATO has stepped in to support the Finnish government in containing the separatist movement and restoring order to the country, at the moment only air support and missile strikes have been made available, but there are talks about a ground task force that may be deployed if the situation deteriorates further.
