Class description
Corvettes (FS) are a class of small ocean going warships, forming the backbone of the auxillary and patrol fleet. Corvettes are subdivided into four styles: General purpose corvettes such as the Stalwart class, which are tasked with many of the escort and patrol duties. Torpedoboats, starting at the Vigilance class, which rely on high speeds and a large compliment of torpedoes to destroy subs and surface ships. These evolve into the subdestroyer class. Lastly, missile corvettes carry a heavy armament of medium to large missiles to destroy surface ships and heavy airships. These start with the Hunter class and evolve into the shipdestroyer class.
Submarines (SSN) are nuclear powered vessels designed for anti-ship and anti-sub operations. The class varies from small drones to large vessels. Being relatively underpowered for their cost, they rely on invisibility for survival.

The ship
The Boxer class is a corvette based on a modified Vigilance hull. It's been extended by 8 m to allow for the placement of an extra gun. The guns themselves are changed from an anti-ship version to a rotary gun firing AP based shells. Instead of the four dual torpedo launchers and two missile turrets, it has but half the torpedoes (two launchers), one missile launcher turret. It's main source of firepower however is located in the central structure: Twenty VLS cells launching all purpose radar guided missiles.

The Boxer was conceived as a more potent Anti-Air platform than the Vigilance. The latter was lacking offensive firepower, with a single gun that lacked the elevation to attack aircraft, and lack of heavier missiles to combat larger planes. Being larger and heavier have had little effect on performance however. It is slightly faster even thanks to its propulsion gripping the water better. It does have slightly less agility than the Vigilance.

When to opt for the Boxer: The Boxer is more expensive, but carries more firepower than the Vigilance. With 66 instead of 47 firepower, the Boxer carries slightly more bang per buck. Especially when up against aircraft, the Boxer is the better choice.

When to opt for the Vigilance: The Boxer has two disadvantages over the Vigilance. Being based on a relatively compact hull, any critical damage will likely completely take away its combat capabilities. Despite having more firepower, the Boxer doesn't have better defences. Losing one costs you more dearly. The Vigilance has better anti-sub measures as well. Use the Vigilance as scout and anti-ship vessel: Losing one is less risky
