Introduction
This guide is a detailed description of the mechanics and optimal investment strategy for Hattan's Investing.

If you're not interested in the algorithm, you can jump to the "Strategy" sections below.
Mechanics :: Number of Offers
Hattan always has at least two offers. Every time "Decline" is clicked, there is an increasing chance that no new offer will be generated.
For each click, the odds are: 0%, 1%, 3%, 7%, 15%, 31%, 63%, and 100%.

Summing these up, the distribution for the cumulative odds for numbers of offers generated is as follows:

Total

Offers are generated as follows:
  • Currency % (hidden): Between 10% and 80%. Uniform distribution, but always a multiple of 10%.
  • Currency: Gold or Dust. Dust may be chosen if the est. return is over 100%.
  • Investment: Currency % of your total inventory of that currency, though never more than 1500 gold or 2 dust.
  • Term (meters): Between 160 and 540. Uniform distribution, but always a multiple of 10.
  • Base Est. Return (hidden): A random number between Base Return Min and Base Return Max in the above table.
  • Term Factor (hidden): A number between 0.6 and 1.8, interpolated depending on the term. 160 meters corresponds to 0.6, and 540 meters to 1.8. The formula is thus (Term in meters + 30) * 3 / 950.
  • Est. Return: (Base Est. Return) * (Term Factor)
Mechanics :: Outcome Tier
The outcome tier is chosen based on the following algorithm:
  1. Pick a number between 1 and 100 (inclusive). If it is below Base Result Success %, the resulting tier is "huge success". Otherwise, proceed to step 2.
  2. Pick a number between 1 and 100 (inclusive). If it is below Base Result Success %, the resulting tier is "better than expected". Otherwise, proceed to step 3.
  3. Pick a number between 1 and 100 (inclusive). If it is below Base Result Success %, the resulting tier is "exactly as planned". Otherwise, proceed to step 4.
  4. Pick a number between 1 and 100 (inclusive). If it is below Base Result Success %, the resulting tier is "not so well". Otherwise, proceed to step 5.
  5. If the player doesn't have the "Lucky" trait, the resulting tier is "total disaster". Otherwise, proceed to step 6.
    The "Lucky" trait is obtained by recruiting all monsters in the "Team Mana" group, including the secret Wraith monster.
  6. Pick a number between 1 and 100 (inclusive). If it is below Base Result Success %, the resulting tier is "huge success". Otherwise, proceed to step 7.
  7. Pick a number between 1 and 100 (inclusive). If it is below Base Result Success %, the resulting tier is "better than expected". Otherwise, proceed to step 8.
  8. Pick a number between 1 and 100 (inclusive). If it is below Base Result Success %, the resulting tier is "exactly as planned". Otherwise, proceed to step 9.
  9. Pick a number between 1 and 100 (inclusive). If it is below Base Result Success %, the resulting tier is "not so well". Otherwise, the resulting tier is "total disaster".

Mechanics :: Outcome
Based on the outcome tier calculated above, the final return (not including the initial investment) is affected as follows:

Tier
Yield Factor
huge success
180% of projection
better than expected
130% of projection
exactly as planned
100% of projection
not so well
 50% of projection
total disaster
(investment completely lost)
Strategy
You can use the following charts to determine if a proposed investment is worthwhile.
Aim for proposed investments which have an average final return over 100%.

Detailed instructions:
  1. Determine if you have the Lucky trait or not, and go to the corresponding chart.
  2. In the game, look at what's written on the Outlook line; then, find the line on the chart with the same color as in the chart legend.
  3. In the game, look at what's written on the Est. Return line; then, use the horizontal scale at the bottom (X) to find the point on your line corresponding to the shown value.
  4. The corresponding Y value for that point is the Average Final Return for that investment. If it is below 100%, reject the investment, as you will lose money on average.

Chart (with "Lucky")
Conclusions
Without the "Lucky" trait:
  • Some investments will, on average, lose money, especially low-yield high-risk ones.
  • The best outlook is "Optimistic".

With the "Lucky" trait:
  • All investments will, on average, win money.
  • The best investments are the high-risk ones (Dangerous and Volatile), with a high Est. Return.

I'm not sure if they've been removed for a reason, but the Charts in Strategy seem to be completely absent.
