[OUTDATED] How to make a Custom Thumbnail

Are you mad some punk put comic sans in a thumbnail and got it to the front page? Want to do the same? Then this was the guide for you!

As of writing, the latest update (smooth train control) has moved the file where you replace the thumbnails to a much more convenient place in the same modding folder you place your liveries and train mods and terrain mods and all that Jazz in. I'll make a proper update as soon as I actually use this new system myself.

YOU HAVE TO DO ALL OF THIS WHILE IN THE UPLOADING MENU
If you're replacing, the image needs to be a .PNG!
You will also need to take a default thumbnail, but don't upload it.
Also, do not make the thumbnail fullsize. I don't know exactly what you can get away with, I'm gonna guess below 850 by whatever will work

I'll be using a livery to demonstrate, but this should work with all other workshop material.


Your upload screen should something like this after all of that.

Step 1: File Navigation
Navigate to %appdata% - LocalLow - Guagepunk Games - Rolling Line - Modding.

This will take to to a list of your uploaded (and importantly, about to uploaded) workshop creations.





Step 2: Inserting/editing
After navigating to the item you're uploading, you'll need to insert the picture(s) you want to become the thumbnail(s).

It should look something like this.



Replacing: If you want it to replace the steam workshop thumbnail, delete "icon.png" and rename your picture to "icon.png"

If you're replacing the in game thumbnail, delete "thumbnail.png" and rename your picture to "thumbnail.png"

Replacing the steam thumbnail should look like this.



You could also edit the one you took in game; via right clicking on it.
Step 3: Uploading
The thumbnail will not change in-game. Yes, you really did change it.

Anyways, as long as put the custom one in correctly it should show up in steam after you press upload.

Yes, I Believe this works with anything that can be uploaded onto the workshop.

"it shows a picture of a text overlay, then goes on to use a livery onto a train as the example" It would help to show step by step how to place words/personal logo onto the main display thumbnail picture, not how to repaint the side of a train blue and white.

What a jumbled mess. Why would anyone need to go through this much trouble to get a simple logo onto a thumbnail is just crazy. Rolling Line needs to go into the game and make it easy for everyone to do these things as there are a lot of youngsters who love creating content, but don't have any tech skills due to age. This guide is also some-what backwards as it shows a picture of a text overlay, then goes on to use a livery onto a train as the example.
