I haven't updated the guide in quite a while, and since the game is not getting any new content I probably will not play it in a while. So I appreciate your contribution, keeping it accurate.
@bedlambetty: Good suggestion! Haven't tried that but it makes sense.
Technically, it's better to start with pre-made rangers, for the items and get rid of them to create the squad of four core rangers you want when you get access to ranger HQ.
1. Lockpick/Nerd Stuff
2. First Aid
3. Mechanics
4. Kiss ass
5. Armor modding

14. Animal whisperer
I may have worded my question wrong;
You recommend a .. perk? 'Gopher Hunter', which applies to assault rifles only.. on the SMG build (a character using SMGs) -- and I Was trying to figure out why, especially if I'm supposed to be using SMGs.
The omg-smg-wtf is intended for smg (sub machine gun) not assault rifles. It's implicit from the name I guess, but it would probably help writing it out. I'll add it. 🙂
There's also a really good smg you can get fairly early on from a vendor on the map, although they might have parched his inventory to not keep that weapon if you're on a lower level. I don't remember the name but it's a uzi-looking smg. Adding explosive rounds to that weapon will make it quite overkill.
