The basics of combat
I am going to explain to you how to combat the enemies on the three lanes, which minions, Ultori and abilities to use against them and how to defeat the enemy anti heroes while keeping your own hero at the highest possible health. I am also going to give you some tips on how and when to upgrade your minions, Ultori and your hero, the artificial intelligence called Arx .

If you would rather watch a video then read I have you covered:

First things first, since this is a turn based game let’s explain how that works. Turn one is the battle’s start where your Ultori are instantly placed one on each lane, while the enemy spawns both his champions and minions in his lanes. Then you get to place down your minions according to your defence and offence plans. It is only after you end turn 1 does combat start and attacks are executed. This means that you start each and every battle on the defensive and have to react to the enemy's first move.

Secondly, the powers you can summon, this includes minions and abilities called magicas, spend your available points called Luma, shown here. The maximum Luma you can have per turn can be increased by the battles setup, special minions and character upgrades. This is something I will get into later.

Thirdly, in Against the Moon there are 3 separate lanes in which you can place up to 4 minions. Three if there is an Ultori, your champion is already present.
Attack power, health and ultimate abilities
The damage your minions and Ultori do to the enemies in the opposing lane is added up and shown by the red marker with a number. If that number is reaching the end of the lane then that is the amount of damage you will inflict on the enemy hero. This is also summed up for all three lanes and shown in a red marker next to the hero.

If the marker is in front of an enemy minion then it means that the minions before it will be destroyed while the minion in front of which the marker has stopped will be damaged for the amount that is shown on the maker.

Each minion or Ultori which is in danger of getting knocked out or destroyed in the combat has a skull icon alternation with his health icon which is the one drawn like a circle below the minion. The other icon below the minions and Ultori is the amount of damage they will inflict to the enemy lane. If that icon has a fire burning on top of it that represents a damage buff activated which can last one or more turns.

The third icon below the ultori and the hero Arx is the number of points before they can use their ultimate ability. The total number is shown in the left bottom corner, here. These points are gained after each turn but can be boosted by single use magicas, which are direct actions you can play during your turn.

It is important to remember that the points pool is shared between the Ultori and the Hero Arx. So while all three Ultori might show they are ready to use their ultimate ability, using it with just one Ultori will use up the points in that pool and prevent you from using more until they are recharged. The Hero’s ultimate is the most powerful so it is naturally the one which requires the most points.

More about combat mechanics
Another very important note to take is that you cannot move your minions once they are placed in a square on one lane. Also, the damage minions take on a lane is sequential, meaning that the first minions is hit with the maximum damage, their health pool is drained, they are destroyed and the rest of the damage dealt is then transferred to the next minion in the line.

So if you place a shield on the first minion the shield will protect them only, the enemy damage will be reduced by the number of HP points they have but the rest of the damage will continue onto the next minion in the lane. This can be a bit confusing and counter-intuitive so it will take you some time to get used to this mechanic. Lucky you have that red marker with the number of damage and where it ends to help you easily spot which minions or Ultori are in danger.

Because of all these finer points I just explained the best tactics for maximum survivability and damage are to place minions with low damage but high health in the front of the lane and units with high damage but low health in the back.

Now to make everything even more complicated a lot of the minions have special powers and effects which can be anything from damage to the enemy in the opposing lane when spawned to dealing direct damage to your hero Arx depending on the cards which are forced into your hand when you destroy enemy minions. To avoid really bad situations and combos make sure to read every enemy minion description by hovering your mouse cursor over them and then rethink your moving while taking into consideration those effects.

Upgrades, Mutations and deckbuilding
You can mutate your own minions with metacubes you find after defeating enemy heroes and unlock more effects and powers. Besides minions you can mutate the magicas, single use abilities into more powerful variations.

Arcana cells are another reword you can gain and it will allow you to add more minions or magicas into your deck. You can also upgrade the Ultori with two different branching upgrades after the first one.

While the intro and story missions let your Arx hero regenerate HP after each battle and you can restart each battle as many times as you want in the other game mode, called Luma Run things are much more roguelike with no restarts and no regeneration.

The only way to gain some health back up for your hero is to choose on the map to defeat enemies which are sitting on healing supplies or land on short mini stories whose outcome lets you choose a reward which may be to heal up your hero.

The points you earn in a Luma Run can be used in the laboratory to unlock new powers, which can be minions or magicas and then add them to your deck. This gives you kind of a persistent upgrade system and lets you explore different minions and magicas and their alternative versions for different decks.

Naturally there are more mechanics in the game and many enemy types and character abilities but I will cover those in another guide. Thank you for reading and have a good one!

This is less 'how to win battles' and more 'how to play the game'
on that is solid but I didn't help me with the problems I have
