When trying to optimize travel time, it can be hard to know exactly where you need to improve. You could make your entire base out of metal tiles and platic ladders, but that's excessive in most cases. This mod adds a new overlay to the game that colors tiles based on how many times a dupe walks through them. Tiles that duplicants frequently pass though are colored bright red, and tiles that are not very often used are colored green. The mod tracks duplicant movement and retains that information for 3 cycles so the information can change as your base layout changes.

Traffic information is not saved with the game, and will never be. There is too much data to keep that would bloat file sizes and make the mod harder to remove. Additionally, running the game for about 1-2 cycles normally generates all the info you could need, removing the need for it to be saved.
