Castile would be a good tutorial nation, because it is involved in almost all of the different aspects of the game. It needs diplomacy and land warfare in its efforts to become Spain, take Portugal, carry out the Reconquista and then expand into Europe and North Africa. It is an early colonizer so it brings that part of the game into play quickly and with a wide range of options. Spain's expansion into North Africa and its colonization efforts bring in the religious aspects of the game. Spain also has to be involved in a lot of trade and naval warfare to support its expansion efforts in Europe, North Africa and its colonies. Finally, Castile is a relatively easy country to play, so beginners can follow along with you.
