TIPS and tricks for Optimal Gameplay
由 Terminator 制作
This guide assumes you have a basic knowledge of the game, I wont be going over: ratios, building placements, or build order. That is up to you to figure out while playing the game.

Woodcutters
Always start the game with at least 10 woodcutter huts. 20 is about right. Getting greedy early by buying wood is usually not the right move. I'd advise buying no more than 250 wood (thats 500 gold).

By the time you make more hovels, granary, orchards, market, stockpile extended, make a quarry/iron mine, your woodcutters will be done their first load shortly.
Hops/Ale
Getting hops early is crucial. The +8 from Ale consumption is such an easy tax generator. Keeping your peasants drunk only costs wood (which is basically free), and 100 gold per Inn. Get 2 hop farms minimum; they will sustain a population of 80 or so.
Make Weapons
The Pig got it right, crossbowmen are the most cost effective early game defence. They destroy every other ranged unit.
Get Fletchers making crossbows as early as possible, they are a great income source. I usually get 12 once my woodcutters return with their first load of wood.
Tanners are not as important, but if you can spare the oasis land, build a dairy farm, placing the tanneries as close as possible to it.
Make as many weapons as you can.
Bonus points if you are close to an iron deposit, as you can build a Blacksmiths.
Later on you can get stables and make knights, they are really good for defence and sniping buildings.
Religion
Religion can be good, if you plan on playing a longer game with a high population.
If you are going for a quick win, don't bother.
Fear Factor
I like to stay neutral. Making gardens makes your peasants into slackers, but your army beefier. And making gallows costs in army durability, giving you extra resources.

Making them takes space, time, and gold. Generally speaking, this is a waste of time. The only exception is if maybe you are behind. It's usually better to squeeze out a few more troops, or build more walls. You will have to accept the negative effects, or delete them quickly before/after the siege.
CHEATS!!!!
Ok, so... I have mixed emotions about this. Using cheats takes away from the game experience, but it can also add its own value. These aren't really cheats, it's just exploiting the game mechanics.
Use to your own satisfaction.

1. Build an orchard. Select the building. Pause the game. Double click the "Sleep" Button. Unpause the game and wait.
What you have just done is make the game think that it needs another worker to go to the building. It only works well with orchards, hop and wheat , chapels, iron mines (if far away, it'll help), and pitch mines. It can be done until the game runs out of peasants (don't worry about it).

2. You can also lock enemies in their base. If you are having a hard time with a level, you can just build an ox tether directly in front (touching) of their stone gate. This works on everyone, but wont work on AIs that already have build spike traps in front of their stone gate.

You dont even mention Monks those are literaly the best melee unit at the beginning
Yeah the 1000 Cathedral cost is harsh but its permanent 2 Popluarity bonus is allready very good
and monks are just busted for 10 gold you get a Stronger speer men
also saying that you should allways make crossbows is wrong agenst the abbot , Snake and Calph it would be better to make archers
abbot because Monks are very resitant agenst crossbows (in Compareison to outher units)
and snake and calph to get rid of the early game Slaves

just spam gallows when building army then destroy and replace with flowers when attacking lol

This is very basic level guide.
How of about assassin rush?
What about knights rush?
You could also explain basics of using siege engines and the power of underground mining below enemy walls.

This I know, but that doesnt actually match up to reality. if you dont buy wood, you dont have other stuff to do as you run out of resources while you wait. even if there was, building more eco (which you buy wood for) is the most usefull application of your attention in the early game.
As for slingers, clicking an extra 10-20 slingers, costs you the "attention" of switching a couple fletchers. however, the alternative of buying leather armour more than makes up for that time. Therefore, your attention arguements arent the whole story once again.

I wish I could directly reply to those, but there are so many. I have a lazy play style, prioritising less micro. The less buying and selling you do, the faster you can build other stuff. You have to remember that doing one thing costs you the other thing you could do. If you decide you want to spam out slingers, that's costing you your attention that could be swiching all the fletchers from bows to crossbows.

I lost other points when splitting my message up. But please not that your Fear Factor comments are way off base, as they only focus on the negatives. Fighting harder can sometimes counter less effective workers. And working harder can get more gold which means more troops which counters less effective army.

part 6

Now, obviously you are going to need to replace your start archers by the end of the early game. Depending on your end-game plan, you could replace them with crossbowmen, or you could leave one or two of your fletchers making normal bows for regular archers. lets say they cost the same for weapons if you are making them, as making a bow means you are not making a crossbow, this still saves 25 gold from the leather armour, and 8 gold from recruit cost. which you can then put towards an endgame unit such as knights or Horse Archers.

part 5
A slinger does 0.7 the damage per second agains pikes, 1/3 against maces, and 0.4 against assassin. so at worst just under 1/3 the damage for same cost, but there are 6 times the amount so you will be killing macemen twice as fast as the crossbowmen do. Or you could split your slingers up to protect more ground and kill just as fast, but protecting your base and your eco, and they are faster to redeploy to other areas. Of course their range is lower so you might need to redeploy more often. A good resource for comparing units can be found at https://stronghold.heavengames.com/downloads/showfile.php?fileid=8278 feel free to fact check me.

part 4
I will assume for arguements sake, that whatever you dont spend on troops will go into fletchers for the weapons economy (thats not my first priority, but its the advice you gave) therefore the cost of fletchers dont count against making crossbows, instead i will take into account the lost profit of using the crossbows instead of selling them. 5 crossbows sell for 150 gold. you say not to worry about making leather armour, so i asume you buy them for 125 gold. then you recruit your crossbowmen for 100 gold. It still costs 375 gold for 5 crossbowmen. lets compare that to the second best melee counter unit... slingers. 375/12 = 31 slingers.
