Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition (PC) - Achievement - I Was in China Before

Defeat the Jin before they start constructing a Wonder in the third Genghis Khan mission "Into China".

Time is of the essence with this achievement, so bear that in mind from the start. The Jin are your most powerful opponent on this mission and they normally start to construct a Wonder around 25 - 30 minutes in - This can vary a little. The faster you attack them, the easier they are to defeat. One helpful tool shown in this video is the 6 x Bombard Cannons that will join you if you are able to reach them. This really helps as it's difficult to get an effective siege group together in the time that you need it, so take advantage of these and keep them alive as best you can. You can defend against your other enemies quite effectively just by blocking them off and building a castle at your base, so you can focus solely on attacking the Jin once you've done this.
The Jin have a fair amount of cavalry, so I found Pikemen to be a cheap and effective counter. It helps to build up on their island, rather than ferrying troops from your base all the time. You don't need gold or stone early on much, so try and focus on food and wood, but there should be a little time to get some gold or stone at some point - The stone can be particularly helpful to build castles in the Jin territory as you are pushing. Just make sure you keep the pressure on them. It's not good enough to just have them on the ropes, you really need to finish them or they may still randomly build a wonder.

*PLEASE NOTE* This achievement was bugged and wouldn't always trigger in previous versions, but triggers fine in the current version

2. We put the castle on the left side, the tower on the right. 75% of the settlers are building a castle, the rest are building a tower. If the enemy cavalry gets under the castle, we send out cavalrymen to lure them out. As soon as Jin's attack subsides, we will build an additional tower near the gold mine. To repair and build new towers, we buy stone at the market or mine it near the castle. At this point, the Jin will spend all its resources, and then you can safely finish them off with bombards. As you can see, the economy and the construction of new units are not needed here in this walkthrough

1. The easiest way to get this achievement. We move our army to the ship and sail to the eastern part of the island of engineers to pick up the settlers and not engage in battle with the militia. We are building a TC in the north of Jin Island, several houses and a couple of buildings for the transition to the castle age (one of them is a market). We're sending a ship with one cavalryman to get the bombards. Be sure to capture all the sheep you find. 2 settlers are builders, 3 are food gatherers, 3 are chopping wood. We're ordering some new settlers. As soon as we enter the castle age, we will take all the settlers and send them to the eastern gate of Jin. .

Thanks for the note!

I did this about a month ago, so don't remember all the details, but here's something.

1) Once captured siege from the engineers, immediately travel across the river, actually, right under the Jin's base. Don't be afraid, they won't attack you until you start attacking them, and also you are safe, because you are on the isolated island where other AIs can't reach.

2) Then need to eco boom as quick as possible. Lack of gold (and stone) is not critical in the beginning, because of relatively high starting balance, but to gather a deathball of units and research nice upgrades you'll have to start pushing Jin (better sooner than later, since as correctly mentioned, they start to build a Wonder approximately at 30~40 mins, and if this happened -- it means achievement is failed, and the more you push them, the later they collect the required amount of resources, since they will have to spend them on units to defend from you).
3) Eco: build 4 houses, Town Center and a Dock; fishing ships gather food from fish, request several villagers in TC while you're setting up the required buildings for moving into Castle Age (Blacksmith and Market), the rest are chopping wood and/or hunting boars/deers.
4) Advance to Castle Age as soon as you can, there's no way you can beat Jin in Feudal. Research upgrades for Light Cavalry and Archers.

5) Once you're in Castle Age, build a Castle in front of Jin's gate, so that your Castle can attack a couple of Jin's towers. In University research Murder Holes and Ballistics (really required, since all AIs advance to Imperial Age already, but we've just managed to achieve Castle).
6) Jin train only Knights, Cho-Ko-Nu-s and Monks, so counter them with mix of Monks, Pikemans and Light Cavalry + Cavalry Archers that you have from the very beginning as an additional cover.
7) Destroy towers and gates with your castle, the remaining towers that could disturb you (mainly those near gold mine), can be destroyed by rams.
Put pikeman inside for maxing rams damage/speed and use archers for cover.
Raid Jin economy with your LC and CA distracting the knights, when possible convert knights with your monks, the rest lead under your castle cover and kill with pikemen. Cho-Ko-Nu can be easily countered with stolen knights or 3-4 LCs, monks only with LCs.

8) With such approach Jin can't mass the army and constantly sends 1-4 units against you which you should be able to deal with.
9) Once the last tower went down, send your villagers to mine gold, build a wall right from the trees on one end to Jin's wall on the other end. I took like 10 villagers and also built my own defensive tower there.
10) Now you have a plenty of gold, so nothing stops you from eliminating Jin. Train Mangudai and more Rams. I dropped another castle as close as possible to their Town Center and was lucky to run with a couple of my villagers to the area where they used to build a Wonder and built a tower there :)
Approximately a minute later Jin surrendered. :steamhappy:
