Making money
The best and quickest way I found to make money is to bake and sell fish.

You can buy raw fish from the merchant in the fishing village for 5 gold each.
You can buy salt from the baker in the village (buy pastry) for 3 gold each.
The fishwife in the fishing village will bake the fish for you free of charge, and will use 1 fish and 1 salt for each baked fish.
Bake the fish, then sell it back to the fishing merchant for 10 gold each.

You can change the number of items you are trading at one time by clicking on the "1x" button on the left of the transaction window. You can buy in increments of 1, 5, or 10. This makes it much faster to do all the transactions.

Fish trading for gold goes faster the more you do it as you increase your return by 20% each time. Once you have several thousand gold the game goes quick as you can just map warp to town, buy what your missing, and map warp back and burn though the game. The down side is this makes the game trivial. You don't have to hunt for trophies and meat to make energy, or harvest plants and mushrooms for the potions. and scavenge to replace broken equipment. Use at your own risk/patience level.

The fisherman's wife only appears after you help out the fisherman He needs you to pay his tax bill (70 gold I think)

dudes you can also rest at any fire for 1 stick and get back 10 hearts if you don't have food, it's just much slower

Your guide saved me from quitting the game before I was really started. In the other three, resting or eating food at resting time becomes ingrained in you. This game is different. Hoarding isn't at all necessary, but I am hoarding anyway. LOL Doing all quests at the same time is also something you learn in the first games. Here you really do need to be more precise. Eating food just dooms you later because almost NOTHING ever regrows, it seems, except for the fish, perhaps. I miss re-scavenging.
