@Allower, I updated the guide a bit. However the registry edit DOES work if following the steps in the guide. You have to disable inheritance for subfolders so the game launcher is able to edit it, but block the parent folder where the language key is.

@Alpha-1 , your's guide title says: Change UI language without changing Steam default language , but also 1-st method: Change Steam client app language

And also we just discussed that the method of changing the game language through the registry no longer works. But you have added a method for changing the language through the registry!

I found a workaround that works with the latest patches of the game. I published a guide here . But devs should provide a easy way to choose the UI language. I just want to play the game in english while having Steam in spanish.

@lds1998 , yes, Steam has updated the method for selecting a language through the Windows registry. I also searched among all the games built on the Source SDK 2013 engine and came to the conclusion that this is a common problem that gives the answer to why commands like “-language” work in some places and not in others.

The last update broke that... haven't found a way to bypass it, thanks for the heads-up @Allower.

@lds1998 , no, now this doesn’t work either, the game refuses to start after you deny all access permissions to the folder called Source, which is located at the path “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Valve” in the Registry Editor

You click Play and the game doesn't start

@allower For my testing steam remains in the language you setup, the game defaults back to English since it can't detect steam language, tested before posting

@lds1998 , you're right, but this is the same as you change language on Steam > Settings > Interface, the only difference is you don't need to restart Steam. So editing this parameter in the registry is the same as you do in the Steam settings.

In my method, I tried to avoid unnecessary actions. But the developers broke everything with updates. Therefore, this guide will only work if you specify the launch option -oldgameui

Hope I am not too late for you and those who search for this on the web, here's how:

Press WIN+R
type: Regedit
Inside Regedit go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Valve
There is a folder called Source, on this folder, there will be a key called: language, changed to English
After clicking the source folder on the right side of the page and going to permissions
In permission, you are gonna change all groups and users to denied Total control and press ok and then ok on the warning.
