Basics
Eating raises a character's Ambition, Satiety, and Refreshment.
Eating meal sets can give you a buff exclusive only to each meal set.
To get the buff you need either Satiety or Refreshment at some percentage.
Which one needs to be brought to what percentage is based on the meal set.
If you surpass a characters maximum Satiety or Refreshment they will get a debuff.

Max Satiety causes Overeat.
When you eat a Dish or Side Dish, with this effect, Meal Set Effects will not be activated, Ambition will decrease, and any active Meal Set Effects will be removed.

Max Refreshment causes Heavy Drinking.
When you have a Drink, with this effect, Meal Set Effects will not be activated, Ambition will decrease, and any active Meal Set Effects will be removed.

Satiety measures how full the character is.
Refreshment measures how hydrated the character is.
Since eating raises Ambition both Satiety and Refreshment serves as a way of preventing players of abusing this fact to give themselves near limitless Ambition.
They also serves as a minimum requirement for getting a meal set buff.

Anne is a teenager and as such cannot drink alcohol.
This means she cannot benefit from any Meal Sets with any Liquor.

Additional Notes
Each type of buff seem to come in three different tiers.
Unmodified, Very, and Extremely.
Increasing the tier, increases the power of the buff and the required Satiety or Refreshment.

If a meal set will give you the debuff Overeat or Heavy Drinking, but you do not have either debuff, you will still get the buff as long as the meal set will give you the required amount of Satiety or Refreshment for the buff.

That does sound like a bug. You should mention it in the bug reports. It might have something to do with how both Sion and Irene have above 100 Satiety, but that is pure speculation.

I don't get it. So I buy savory sandwich followed by start of a busy day for Albus, Sion and Irene ... on the preview before buying the menu it says they will all get the bonus, but afterwards only Albus gets it?

Is it a bug because of the higher satiety limits on Sion and Irene?

Satiety measures how full the character is, and Refreshment measures how hydrated the character is. They prevent you force feeding a character to raise their ambition too much, and serves as a minimum requirement for getting a meal set buff.

Thanks! But... if anyone's willing to help explain, this is kind of a silly question but what do satiety and refreshment actually mean in the game, and what are they for? I cannot find any definition anywhere in-game and any explanation in the discussions
