Introduction
This method earns you 20 card packs every time you return to the game. It's faster than collecting pearls and much less taxing. Each time should take just over two minutes -- and it just requires resetting.

Resetting your island sounds scary, but you retain your items and pearls in the process, and the prices of duplicate items reduce to their cheapest value (50 gems for common to 5k for exotic).

Recollect all of your furniture and the only loss will be your progress on each house. You'll quickly make up for this with cheap exotic items and unlocking new card packs.
Save backup
Backup your save files first if this trick worries you. They'll be located in:
  • [Your Steam folder]/userdata/[Your User ID]/656560/remote/
Or you can download a copy of your Steam Cloud save here:
(If you do not have Steam Cloud enabled, you can find the save data in your registry:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Stolen Couch Games\Castaway Home Designer )
Steps
  1. Unlock at least seven regions using boosts as necessary (5x, 10x, House Party)
  2. Recollect all your furniture from every house and use all your gems to buy item duplicates.
  3. Go to Settings -> Reset Island
  4. Complete your starter house's missions (10 packs)
  5. Exit the game and reopen it -- your starter house will have reset but nothing else.
  6. Complete your starter house's quests again (10 packs).
  7. Return to step 1.
Steps (with pictures)

  2. Recollect all your furniture from every house and use all your gems to buy item duplicates.

  3. Go to Settings -> Reset Island

  4. Complete your starter house's missions (10 packs)

  5. Exit the game and reopen it -- your starter house will have reset but nothing else.

  6. Complete your starter house's quests again (10 packs).

  7. Return to step 1.
Other notes
Resetting requires you to unlock at least seven regions. It also gives back your boosts (5x, 10x, and House Party).

The 5x and 10x multiplier will carry over with the reset if they're still active, and they won't expire until you quit the game. It will carry over a second time if you reset again in the same session, but you will miss out on the extra ten packs from exiting and reopening the game.

Activate the House Party after unlocking at least three regions to earn enough money for the other four regions.

Focus on purchasing duplicates of any high rarity items you have, particularly ceiling, wall, and floor decorations. Red, basic, and art items work very well for your starter home.

It will still take a long time to unlock all the items, but this is easier than grinding out the same houses repeatedly.

The machine is mostly the same, just new motherboard and cpu, with extra new drives for first Linux, then another for Windoze 10.

The old drive with Windoze 7 is still in it, but it can't boot. Will ask a friend if there's a way to access the registry on that without being able to boot the drive. Thanks! :)

@Mickmane, thanks for pointing this out, it turns out this game also writes its saves to your registry because it's a Unity game.

This should mean you can export all the data through this folder in your Registry Editor and bring it to your new computer.

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Stolen Couch Games\Castaway Home Designer

I'm not sure if you can access your old computer's registry with it broken -- but it should be on the machine at least.

* Long story: Parts in the old computer broke, bought new parts, old windoze 7 didn't like them, got new drive(s), installed windoze 10, found old saves on the old C: for a lot of games, but not this! I did not have cloud save enabled. So all I got is a completely new game state, my old discoveries and whatnot all gone.

I still have the old drive with whatever data was put there somewhere on (old) C: or the Steam directory on the (old) D: partition, so that's not a problem. I just don't know where the save is. (The drive is connected and running, I just can't boot it because the OS on it doesn't like the new computer parts, and I don't want to overwrite any of it, for backup sake.)

For now I've resorted to, ehm, editing the (new) save file (with cloud enabled I find it where you say, disabling that it disappears, enabling it again puts it back into the directory you mention), changing a few numbers for pearls and gems. I'd still like to know where my old savegame is, though.

Nice, I did most of that on my own, and finally got the last item researched... (Btw, I never realized the difference between X and packet for removing items, so thanks for that info!)

BUT, (long story*), do you know where the save is located without the cloud save? The directory you mention only exist with cloud save, when you disable that, the save goes who knows where. (I don't know where.)

Thanks for any pointers you might be able to provide. :)
