Where are the mods and how do I make them?
The mods are on ModDB, here! https://www.moddb.com/games/golden-treasure-the-great-green/downloads

If you want to make your own, you need Story Creator, here! https://www.moddb.com/games/golden-treasure-the-great-green/downloads/story-creator-100-pc

Story Creator has extensive documentation within the application. It is quite intuitive to use, and you can look at all of the base game content to see how it is set up. I was able to basically get the hang of it after one day.
Introduction
I love this game. Have I ever mentioned that?

I thought it might be helpful to have a master guide of free-use content and techniques to make our mods better.

One thing first -- I do not condone plagiarism or art theft in any form. All artwork (visual, written, and audible) in your mods should meet one of the following criteria:
  1. It was created by someone collaborating on the mod.
  2. It was commissioned or bought by someone collaborating on the mod.
  3. It has been released for free use via public domain, Creative Commons, or similar.
  4. You have been granted the copyright holder's -- the artist's (plus commissioner's, if applicable) -- explicit permission, because you asked them for it.
  5. It has been created by AI under a license that allows you to use it. (Most, if not all of them do.)

In cases 2 through 4, it's a good idea to give appropriate attribution by linking back to the artist's website or gallery, unless it is public domain or the license otherwise says that it's not required.

Odds are actually pretty decent that, if you ask the artists on gallery sites (DeviantArt, FurAffinity, Tumblr) for permission to use their work, they'll say yes. The magic words are "I'm making a non-commercial modification for this awesome dragon game called Golden Treasure" and "I will link back to your gallery".
Free-use Artwork
This section holds visual artwork that meets one of the following criteria:
  1. The artwork is considered public domain.
  2. The artist has voluntarily released their work into some kind of free-use license such as public domain, Creative Commons, or similar.
  3. The artist has given their explicit permission that anyone may use their work for any Golden Treasure mod.
  4. The artist has given their explicit permission that anyone may use their work for any non-commercial purpose.

That means anyone is free to use it. Be sure to give appropriate attribution according to the artist's preferences.

If you know of any additional artwork that meets the above criteria, feel free to point it out (including evidence that it is permissible) and I will add it to the list.

(The speedpaints made by Dreaming Door have a sort of brushstroke framing to soften the hard edges on the relatively small images.)

AI-Generated Images
My single highest recommendation is Sora (https://sora.chatgpt.com/), which can understand extremely complicated and precise prompts, and allows for 12 free image generations per 24-hour period. Sora is often advertised as a video generator, but it has an image generation mode and is one of the best in the business.

I recommend using ChatGPT (https://chatgpt.com/) to help with prompt generation. Start by explaining that you need prompts for Sora image generation and that it allows prompts of any length, so any amount of detail is welcome. If the image doesn't turn out how you want, give any feedback to ChatGPT so it'll generate a new prompt. This is a lot easier than trying to write the prompt yourself. Also, ask for the prompt in a code box for easier copy-pasting.

If the prompt is simpler, Bing Image Generator (https://www.bing.com/images/create) is also fairly strong and allows unlimited generations. However, its box has a 480-character limit and it doesn't always obey specific instructions as well.

ChatGPT can also help with Bing image Generator prompts, although you'll have to mention the 480-character and 1-paragraph limit.
Free-use Music
This section holds audible artwork (sometimes called "music") that meets one of the following criteria:
  1. The music is considered public domain.
  2. The composer has voluntarily released their music into some kind of free-use license such as public domain, Creative Commons, or similar.
  3. The composer has given their explicit permission that anyone may use their work for any Golden Treasure mod.
  4. The composer has given their explicit permission that anyone may use their work for any non-commercial purpose.

That means anyone is free to use it. Be sure to give appropriate attribution according to the composer's preferences. I am pointing you in the right direction, but it is your responsibility to attribute correctly. I will offer advice if you have a specific question, but I'm not going to describe every attribution for every song.
