Your planet was destroyed by global nuclear warfare decades ago. You and a few of your colleagues, at the moment, were on an orbital space station dedicated to boomalope research, so you were saved from the nuclear flames. Deciding to wait the radiation out, you all went into deep cryptosleep. Hopefully you would wake up into an green paradise when the ecosystem had repaired itself.

Decades later, the station's AI woke you up. Cosmic radiation and micro-asteroids had deteoriated the station beyond repair and it could no longer sustain life. Quickly, you gathered whatever of value you could into the few drop-pods the station had and headed for the planet.

If you and your colleagues survived the landing and the next few days, you would need to dig underground to shelter yourselves from the toxic fallout, still deadly as ever.

Then you could survive, perhaps thrive and maybe, just maybe, build a ship and leave this planet for good.
