I'm really enjoying the adventure so far. In my case, I was rather scared at the beginning of the game thanks to the terrifying sound design. So after a while I decided to charge the first monster to condition myself for future encounters.
As for playing with headphones, I might try that later. The sounds are effective enough through speakers to make me panic :D
This got me hyped, i'll play SOMA after finishing what I'm playing now
Great emphasis on playing alone, in the dark, with consideration to sound (If you happen to own a good sound system and won't bother anyone nearby, ditch the headphones and crank it), and consideration to detail and subtlety. Especially for Frictional's games...So great, very deep\detailed\disturbing (Soma is my personal holy grail).
I played Soma this way the first time 2 years ago (did you kill yourself also? I just couldn't leave myself there...), I'm down there again now, with a better machine. Follow these steps, if you don't already, and let this game leave you shaken.
