An attempt at explaining how tactics and stances work in Homeworld Remastered. This is based on my own gameplay experience. Feel free to add any corrections, so this guide is accurate.

Tactics

Offensive

Your ships will attack anything they see. They will not hold their position at all.

Defensive

Your ships will attack any ships that are attacked and enemy ships that are nearby.

Passive

Your ships will not attack, but will attack if a ship they are guarding is attacked. If you order them to attack certain enemy ships, they will fight the enemy until resolution, and then go back to being passive. As long as you don't order them to do anything, they'll remain passive.

Stances
Aggressive

Your ships will retain formation and hit harder.

Evasive

Your ships will move faster, use evasive flying, and not hit as hard.

Neutral

Your ships will move at a moderate speed, and hit normally.

Combining Tactics and Stances (2 examples)
Offensive Tactics and Aggressive Stance

Your ships will attack everything, hold formation, and hit harder.

Passive Tactics and Aggressive Stance

Your ships will not attack and hold formation as they are obliterated.

Same, this should have been explained by the game, honestly i feel HW1 back in 1999 had a better Tactics/Stance setup, despite having the exact same number (3 and 3)

Unironically helpful. Game does terrible job explaining any difference in tactics and formations.
