As someone may have noticed, the code for one move change can also be used to change back to the previous. A grid chart makes it easy to keep track of (but difficult to paste here as it removes extra spaces)
Get a large sheet of paper (A4 is big enough) and draw 5 circles (about 2.5cm across) in as big a circle as will fit.
Write the 5 stances in the 5 circles (like other people I settled for GG, DM, etc.).
Draw a line from each circle to each other - the result is a pentagram inside a pentagon. Get a couple of tokens - one for Guybrush, one for the monkey. (I used chess pawns, but anything will do).
Play the game. Use the tokens to show the current stances. Each time his opponent moves, move the token, and write the change code (EAC, say) by the relevant line if you don't know it already. On the line between Guybrush and the Monkey, put an arrow at the end with the losing stance.
Keep playing. After a while you have a complete state machine for your particular game, and it's easy to see at any point which moves are wins, and which are losses.
