This mod allows you to form the infamous Republic of Ezo via a decision!

1.29 MOD UPDATE, PLEASE READ!!!
If you updated the game to 1.29 and the decision to form does not appear anymore (It should appear for all Daimyo with Japanese Culture), delete the Documents\Paradox Interactive\Europa Universalis IV\mod\ folder. It should work after that. Steam will re-download the mod(s) to the new mod format Paradox has introduced with 1.29. Or you can just manually unsub, then re-sub. Should work.

The Republic of Ezo was a short-lived Japanese secessionist state founded in 1869, it was historically established by the last remnants of the Shōgun's army on Hokkaido (Known as 'Ezo' pre-1870) where it announced it's independence from the rest of Japan and announced itself as a Republic. It was the first time democracy anywhere in Japan had been instituted.

-In this mod, you can form the Republic early playing as any Daimyo and taking control of Hokkaido.
Note: The decision won't be available as Shōgun for obvious reasons.


-The Ezo Republic's Tag government type is an Oligarchical Republic
-New set of National Ideas (Traditions & Ambitions) for Ezo.
-New 'Ezo' culture added.
-Potential Leader Names are all taken from the actual Ezo Republic's government cabinet.
-Oshima's province capital is renamed to "Hakodate", The Ezo Republic's actual capital city name.
+Development increase for the province once Ezo formed.

Please read the description. Paradox has made a new change to the way mods are organised and updated now in 1.29, if the mod isn't showing up for you - or has a red "alert" symbol next to it, read above!

@anhs0921 Thanks for the feedback!, The Ezo Republic technically had an "Imperial Seal" which could be made into a flag but it seemed incredibly boring and bland, kinda similar to chinese state flags after Mingsplosion. And i wanted this mod to be as aesthetically pleasing as possible, so it was a tough decision to make. (Plus i liked the Blue Map Colour idea), i hope you understand.

But the fact that it is not historically does bug me, so i may change it in the future.

Like the whole concept, but that flag you are using is just a flag made up by a random guy on internet. No official flag of the Ezo republic is known to this date due to its short-lived nature.

Hey! Thanks for the feedback, consider it done. The mod has now been updated so that 'Ezo' is now just the name of the country.

Very nice mod- my only request would be if you could change the name to just 'Ezo' in fitting with other nations' names? Like how the Ottoman Empire is just called "Ottomans"
