Get the steam icon back:
  • Remove any steam icon from the taskbar (unpin this program from the taskbar)
  • Rather than going to "Start > All Programs > Steam" then right-clicking on the steam icon to add the program to the taskbar, go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\" and right click on Steam.exe. THEN chose the option "Pin to Start Menu".
  • Once the Steam icon is in the start menu, go there, and right-click on that icon. This time you can chose "Pin to Taskbar"
  • You can then remove the icon from the start menu, and enjoy your steam icon back.

I know this Guid is old but what helped me on Win10 was to just move the Icon from C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\ directly to the Taskbar.
So I just hold the Mousekey and moved it and it worked.

Its still broken in the Start Menu but it is fixed at the Task bar and thats enought for me ^^
