The PZL. 554 "Sep" was designed and manufactured by the State Aviation Works (Państwowe Zakłady Lotnicze) to meet the demands for a high-speed interceptor aircraft. The Sep took its first flight on June 9, 1947, and entered service a year later.

The PZL. 554 “Sep” was equipped with 4 forward facing M2 .50 Browning-FK AN/M2 heavy machine guns manufactured by State Rifle Factory (Państwowa Fabryka Karabinów) under license from Browning. (Państwowa Fabryka Karabinów.) The Sep was powered by a RR K56 “Tytan” Turboprop Engine produced by Kerbal Standard in cooperation with Westland and the PZL.

The aircraft was quickly outclassed by the Jet fighters of the time namely the MiG-9, Gloster Meteor, or the F-80 Shooting Star. On May 4, 1950 Polish High Command requested that production of the aircraft be halted and a new aircraft be designed based around the Sep. This new fighter would come to be known as the PZL. 606 “Pająk". Existing examples of the PZL. 554 Sep would be converted into the PZL 606.

The aircraft would be retired on February 29, 1952. 5 remaining examples exist throughout Kerbal. The rest of the aircraft were either converted or scrapped.


1* Polish ace Gabby Gabreski, one of the test pilots for the aircraft, noted that the Sep was capable of reaching an altitude of up to 1,600 meters but was ill-advised due to engine flameouts which in turn significantly curbed engine performance and dramatically shortened the lifespan of the RR K56
