In the /mm/media folder there is a file called startupvids.txt
media/logo_ubi.bik
media/logoarkane.bik
media/Intro.bik
It lists those 3 files. So what you do is rename those. (I did .old onto the end) then it launched and is playing fine.
Also in order to launch the game from my Steam library I had to set it to "run as administrator" while using "mm.exe" directly worked without it. Weird.
Btw does "+map_background none'' have an effect in single player? Thought that was just for MP (joining empty servers).
And since I've read a lot of nonsense about it on a forum:
Adding "-novid" to the games launch options does not actually "fix" anything if you're experiencing CTDs during the intro video or when you press a button in order to skip it.
If you can't even reach the main menu without that crutch then there's no reason to assume the game is gonna run properly.
Find a compatibility setting that works for your system and make sure the game launches properly, then add "-novid" for convenience so you don't have to skip the intro manually anymore.
