Getting Started
---THIS GUIDE'S UPDATED ALONGSIDE OGAT VERSION 90.22---

Before getting started with the guide, if you're new to the game, make sure to check Helba's "Basic controls" guide, and don't be afraid of giving a quick look at the settings menu to customize your bindings.

As for the 90.22 version, this is all you need to know related to server browsing and lobbies. I'll be updating this guide as new updates show up with new content related to both server browsing and lobbies.
Server Browsing
First of all, we're talking about what you'll see from the beginning in terms of gameplay.

So... Where can I find the lobbies at?

Pretty simple, you run oGaT, get to the main menu, and there's a bunch of options to choose from, once you've gone into the settings and got everything setup ready to go, head to "Play". It is located near the top center of the screen.

What's all of this that suddenly appeared!? What are you getting me into!?!?
First of all, if you're as dramatic as I'm suggesting, relaaax. Get a glass of water, give it a nice sip, and keep your eyes here.

Once you click on it (You can also access it VIA "Lobby List" located at the left of the screen), a list of servers will show up, similar to this:

Everything in the list below's corresponding to each number written above the servers list:

  1. Connectivity:
This will allow u to vaguely recognize your ping inside the lobbies. This only works with Dedicated servers. 3 bars means "Good", 2 bars means "Okay", 1 bar means "Don't even think to join". You'll experience issues at 2 bars, while 3 will basically be you, teleporting everywhere and dying to the unknown.

  2. Password:
If a server owns a password required to join, a padlock will be shown here, otherwise, nothing will appear, meaning you can freely join the lobby.

  3. Server Name:
Is there really a need to explain what this is...?

  4. Server Status:
This will help you know what's going on at the server. If it shows "Playing", it means there's a match in progress, "In lobby" goes for the server being in standby, preparing to a new match, and if it shows nothing, it's because it is in a loading screen, a match ending screen, or it didn't change it's status yet.
If no status is shown up, the server may kick you, or react unexpected, such as apparently not responding. Give it some time and retry, or wait if you're already in. In Dedicated Servers this won't usually go above a minute.

  5. Players:
Simple, this will help know both the players online at the server and the maximum ammount of players available in the server in format "Players Online/Maximum Players"

  6. Gamemode:
This shows the gamemode currently being played. If the server's restricted to a single gamemode, it'll automatically show such mode. I'm currently working in a "Gamemodes" guide, and will post it here whenever it's done, but for now:

GaT - Guards and Thieves: The classic gamemode, Guards defend a variety of objects around the area, which can be spotted at the map. They have to make sure Thieves don't steal the Precious Object. Thieves must steal said object and bring it to an Extraction Location. The Precious Object will be displayed at the top left of the screen while playing as Thief, Extraction Locations can be checked at the map while playing as Thief as well.

TDM - Team DeathMatch: A worldwide known mode in shooters, you just meet with people and shoot (or stab) them in the face. Guards vs Thieves.

CTF - Capture The Flag: Also a classic. Get to the enemies flag, steal it, bring it to the extraction location, bam, you got a point. Remember they'll also try to steal yours! The map will show everything you need to know: Your flag location, the rivals flag location, your Extraction spot, and theirs as well.

ZR - Zombie Rush: This one's basically the same as GaT, but with zombies replacing the Thieves. On the other hand, you don't have to steal no objects, but instead eat the Big Brain if you're a Zombie or prevent it from being eaten as a Guard. There's only one brain and everyone knows it's location, zombies shall use teamwork, timings and darkness as their main help, while guards better protect the brain with their lives. The Big Brain requires 2 phases to be nom nom'd: First you have to break a protection glass preventing it from being eaten, and then go through a slow, noisy and disturbing process, also known as eating the brain. There's no need for the whole team to eat it, only one player has to eat such brain to succeed. In fact, the rest of the team shall block the doors/attack the Guards to keep them busy while one eats said brain.

There are many more gamemodes, but these ones are the most commonly played (specially the first 3), so you should have no trouble in a normal day.

  7. Map Name:
This will allow you to know where you're going to be deployed to unleash hell or be the hero nobody deserves.

  8. Server Host:
You can check who's hosting the server you're looking at here. This will provide with the username in oGaT of the host. On the other hand, if it's a dedicated server, it'll show up as "Dedicated" with an icon of a PC computer behind the word.

  9. Server Location:
Here's visible the server location in the world. This can help you predict if you're going to have a good, okay or deplorable connection with such server. You'll be able to check the server country, but shortened. As an example, "FR" means France, "US" means United States, and so on.
If the server host's using a VPN (Virtual Privated Network), this may be inaccurate.
Lobbies
So... I got in a lobby somehow... What do I do?
You're finally inside a lobby(Woo!), the screen changed and you have no idea what the heck you got yourself into, don't worry, calm down, breathe in and out, drink some water and keep reading!

There's really not much to explain, if you join a lobby with a match in progress, you'll be instantly sucked inside the game, otherwise, allow me to explain, but believe me, lobbies are really simple (Seriously!).

These official servers look tough, and I want a challenge. What's going on here?
Inside "Dedicated" lobbies, you'll standby for few seconds, and quickly be moved to a gamemode and map selection screen. If the lobby has a forced gamemode, this one will be skipped. Click on whichever mode or map you wish to play!

  • A gamemode and a map will be chosen based on votes (unless forced by the server). The mode/map with the higher number of votes wins the spot. If there's a draw, the server shall automatically choose a map, although it may take a while sometimes to do so, don't worry, keep drinking that glass of water we just mentioned and don't scream yet!

  • Once all of this is decided and chosen, the game will autobalance the users based on their ingame performance, this, SUPOSSEDLY, will balance the match for both sides.
This may drastically fail with new players, due to their lack of experience inside the game data.

I didn't like the serious look of official dedicated servers so... What's different at community servers?
Player lobbies may be different. The Server Host has control over everything.
  • The host can choose a map and gamemode, or give it a votation as done in Dedicated servers.

  • Host can also instantly start a match or wait literally an eternity to do so.

  • A host can kick and block access to players manually.

  • A password can be set by them to their own server to prevent undesired people from joining.

  • On the other side, hosts won't be able to abuse their powers in the middle of matches, they're just like other users while playing. (That is if they're honorable and legal, and don't lag switch).
You can open your own server easily, go to the Server Browsing/Lobby list, and check at the left of the screen, an option named "Host a New Game" should appear, which will allow you to open a server and be the host yourself! Make sure ports are opened and firewall's ignoring said ports, otherwise nobody will be able to join you. Be sure to have a relatively good upload connection as well or your router will be dying to properly display even a single player!
Farewell, cuties
I definitely didn't go all the way to the bottom. I somehow managed to read all your worthless job here
Congratulations! You should be able to get inside matches with enough knowledge to know what you're getting into and what you would like to play! Now go ahead and destroy these people!

But hey, be friendly, and don't tell no one I helped ya, this will be our secret ;)

For those interested in me for some reason, ingame nickname's Puudie (As shown in the pictures)
Discord goes for Pariah#7429

Have fun out there, and remember to Steal like the perfect guard!
