5 disappointing GTA Online purchases
由 ShelLuser 制作
There's a ton of stuff to purchase in GTAO but unfortunately not everything is all that great. There's some really useless stuff for which R* still charges a hefty price. So here are 5 great ways to waste your money! :)

Editorial (intro)
Hi gang!

It's a hundred fictional degrees Celsius out here so not exactly the most pleasant weather to write guides. Still, let's have a go at it ;)

Keep in mind that not everything on this list is fully "bad"; some things definitely have their uses, but still ended up disappointing me for various reasons I'm about to share...
#5 The weapons locker

Everyone who has a decent collection of weapons and has driven a car will know how awkward the mechanics for selecting a specific gun have become. In GTA IV you only had to switch through a few weapons, in GTA 5 you can easily end up having to go through more than 15 weapons before you finally get the gun you wanted to use. And then there's hoping you didn't rush and clicked the option one too many times, because then you can start all over because in a vehicle weapons can only be selected while going forward in sequence and that's it.

In the earlier versions of the game (like PS3) you could throw away a gun and then it'd be gone forever, but that no longer works: all your weapons are here to stay. Fortunately R* did pick up on this annoyance and gave us the option to sort our weapons. Unfortunately it's kinda bad...

Just doesn't work most of the time!

The idea behind the weapons locker is a good one: allow the player to "store" some of their guns in the virtual locker so that they're no longer available in your inventory, thus not cluttering things up. And that's good; no more having to click through 18+ weapons!

.... if only it worked consistently.

See: the moment you get into a contact mission then your weapons loadout is gone, the moment you get into a free-roam mission the same applies: no longer available. Starting a gang-attack? Forget about it! Helping someone deliver their products? Get ready to click that weapons select button a kazillion times again!

And that's not even mentioning the awful bugs this feature has. For some reason playing with others and visiting their Terrorbyte & CEO office often makes me lose my weapons selection for reasons unknown. I'd try to activate it and get greeted with "You don't have an active selection", say what?!

In the end all this is good for is during free-roam, but when the going gets tough then this function gets going. At first it made me seriously wonder why I wasted my money on this crap.... (it also doesn't help that I enjoy playing contact missions).

Just be careful what weapons you buy!

My tip is therefor definitely to be careful with the weapons you purchase. Buying 3 different pistols might not seem problematic thanks to the weapons wheel, but the moment you're in a vehicle you'll have to click through all of them. Very fun if all you want to do is switch between sticky bombs and your AP pistol and back.

So the best remedy is to be careful what guns you buy instead of relying on this nonsense...
#4 Bunker shooting range

This is one of those features that's not really bad, but not all that great either. It made sense on the PS3 because by performing here you could unlock levels which got you free weapons as bonus. But considering that the Facility has much better free weapons / ammo (mini-gun, sticky bombs...) and you don't have to try and beat some dumb score over this doesn't help.

I dunno, but I ended up really disliking the shooting range. It costs a lot of money and doesn't give you much useful stuff in return. Not to mention that the missions themselves can be plain out frustrating: for reasons I fail to understand I always lose my double and triple score streak, and that always happens when the timer is about to run out. "fun".

Like I said: it's not really bad because it can help you become better at aiming, but if you want some practice then it's a lot cheaper to simply visit a shooting range in the city. Looking back I probably wouldn't have bought this.
#3 The weed business

For the record: I don't dislike the weed business nor do I regret purchasing it. I think the interior looks pretty cool and realistic, the missions aren't too bad and if you're careful with your resupplies then you can even make some easy money out of it while playing solo.

Still, the only reason I keep it around is to be able and switch a nightclub technician to weed as soon as one of the major 5 products gets filled up early.

Not worth the time & effort

See: the problem is that weed doesn't earn you all that much. And as a result you have to sell more product to get a decent amount of money from it.

Meaning? A common strategy with a fully upgraded MC business is to buy supplies for 75k, let the batch run out and then you can sell your stock for around 140k, meaning that you will end up with some profit. And because you only let 1 batch of supplies run you'll also always get 2 delivery vehicles which is easily doable while playing solo (except for the postal service mission, that can become really tricky).

Unfortunately this doesn't work with the weed farm: if you try then you'll always get three delivery vehicles which makes the whole thing pretty awkward to do (if not downright impossible) while being solo.

So my current strategy (apart from ignoring it most of the time) is to steal supplies twice, let that run out and then I'll end up with 2 delivery vehicles again. I don't make much money, but considering that the supplies were free in the first place I also don't consider that a big problem.
#2 The ballistic equipment

It's a real shame to include this because this gear has a serious coolness factor: just look at it! I also think it's awesome that we get to play with the same gear that the "GTA 5 team" used to rob the bank in Paleto bay in story mode.

So far, so good...

But if you consider the hefty cost of this stuff and then look at what you can do with it then things get awkward again...

Research, purchases and then... nothing?

To get your hands on the ballistic equipment you first need to unlock it through bunker research. As you probably know this means that it can take a while because all that stuff is random. Once you have this unlocked you can then buy it at Ammunation for a hefty sum of 500k. So 500,000 GTA$, which is half a million!

Alas, now that you have access to the ballistic equipment you need to get it delivered before you can use it. You can order a drop using the interaction menu and this will cost you another 5,000 GTA$: a crate is dropped close to your location and once you get close enough you'll equip the gear automatically. So far, so good...

The crate with the ballistic equipment gets dropped close to your location...

And then, here you are: a so called Juggernaut. As mentioned before: this stuff looks really cool, absolutely no arguments there.

The problem though is that it gets sort off useless from here on. Although you take a lot less damage you're not invulnerable, and because of the heavy padding you can't really walk or move very fast. The only weapon that's available to you is the minigun, which also doesn't help with your movement (you can't switch or unequip weapons). On the positive side you have unlimited ammo, that's a pro :)

But although Franklin could get a bulldozer to move Micheal and Trevor around such a vehicle doesn't really exist in GTAO; it's not something you can buy and have it spawn close to you. In fact: there isn't any vehicle which you can use to move a Juggernaut around, which really makes this equipment rather useless I think.

Basically the only thing you can do is remove it and then you're back to normal.

I suppose it could help you out with PVP, but even then it will only last you for as long as you have health. As soon as that runs out then it's game over no matter what.

So yeah... it's not really bad but it's also not that great either. Definitely not something I'd buy again.
#1 Remote missile battery for the Pounder Custom

If you look at all the weapons that are available to you then the missile battery can quickly appeal. After all: instead of being limited to only firing at the front of your vehicle you can now shoot at enemies in a 360 degrees radius, pretty cool right?

Well..... See, there are two huge problems with this gear. The first, as shown in the picture above, is its size. If you put this on top of your Pounder then you can forget about driving under several bridges in Los Santos, and that won't be very pleasant if you're trying to make several drops while the clock is ticking. Most bridges can be avoided but not all of them....

The second issue is that you'll only have a limited amount of missiles and well... they're really not all that great either. You can really forget about this being an effective weapon against aircraft.

Just get the guns...

My take is simple: put the mini-guns in front. And if you have them unlocked then equip the Pounder with proximity mines as well and if you really need more insurance then also install the grenade launcher (though you'll need a passenger to operate it).

The mini guns aren't state of the art but they will make short work of any NPC's that come bothering you. And best of all: you get infinite ammo. And for everything else you'll just have to rely on your armor.
And there you have it...
Like I mentioned above: not everything is really bad, but when looking back I definitely wouldn't have bought most of these things because I hardly use them.

Alas, not my greatest guide I think (the hot weather doesn't help) but I hope this can still be useful for some of you.

@Krokzter: that's just the problem: more than often that option is disabled. It only works in free-roam.

The gun locker is a great purchase. Some times it does unequipped the loadout but you just have to go to your Quick Menu (M) -> Inventory -> Enable Loadout

From what I know, the gun locker makes some sort of glitch, which makes your ammo freeze. When you have your custom loadout on, you waste some ammo a switch sessions, it will get back on normal. Doesn't work with explosives, minigun and special ammo.

Someone might think, what it's a good, but I don't thing so.

The locker is a fun feature but the problem is that it bugs out soo many times. Start a mission and your selection is gone, upgrade a property which also has a locker and your selection is gone. Visit a friends place and your selection is gone. It's good for what it is, but it bugs out so many times :(

The Juggernaut can be transported ontop of semis, still a useless purchase though since you can't even do VIP missions with it.
