Imagine if the TIE cockpit pods and wing panels were stored separately inside the Frigate's hull, all tightly packed together. With the wings stored rotated 90 degrees from the position shown in the picture.
Imagine the separate components are brought up from storage via hoists and chutes below the hangar deck, a bit like big shells being brought up from the magazine via shell hoists in a WW2 battleship turret. And then the components are automatically assembled in seconds on the hangar deck, by 'hot plugging' the wing panels onto the powered up cockpit pod. With 3 hoists below the hangar floor, so 3 TIEs could be assembled simultaneously
I think you could actually get 24 TIE Fighters onto a Frigate that way. At least, in the big Frigate seen in this game, not the small one in X-Wing Alliance.
