I'm trying to think of how to get to the platform without using trad BCS. The only thing I'm coming up with would be using slope momentum to jump the gap, but you'd only have one shot at it. Otherwise I think you'd have to dive up to get enough speed, then you wouldn't be able to spin for distance. Also, I'd been sleeping on walljump+spin until now, but you can get a lot of distance with it.
I tend to like the way the cave is designed because people seem to think that I was teleporting Mayfly around the map to get them to wind up in a hole up on the hill. However the player legit walks and climbs through a tunnel which was boo-leaned out of the geometry which does go the full length of the 3D model.
Back? Reset? I think the idea was that it's supposed to be a quick way to invert the controls in cases where the default camera controls feel off (50% of the population think the other half is weird).
All in all, this game is a surprisingly difficult speedrun, but a really fun one in that. I've already recommended it to friends :)
I do have a couple concerns about the game, though.
For some reason, pressing BACK on my PS3 controller seems to reset the controls? It at least resets the Y inversion (making up move the camera down), which can make resetting runs a bit strange.
Also it would be great to have an option to disable the reading popups - they're great for experiencing the game, but during the run, it can make it a bit difficult to see what's going on.
Sorry about the double-comment, but steam has a 1k char limit.
The shovel did actually help a bit in finding a few tricks in the run, mainly where we skip luring the enemy to break the vines for us in the second area. You can do an autojump off of a rock and use an item to just barely get enough height to get on the branches. I ended up finding an itemless route, though, so I don't think we ever used it in a run (the one where we stand on vines to regain stamina). Then, we ended up skipping that room with the Fire Crystal from the previous room, too.
But yeah, the advanced techniques are meant to be tools for speed runners, or otherwise, just people who want to be stylish to use.
I'd like to see how far people push the game.
