the problem is, from problems with them i've seen copying screaming steel models into the game, knife kitty cannot make the weapon models properly work inside garry's mod without modifying the original model files, which would require modified files to be redistributed

The wording probably made Ashton, the developer, think you wanted to redistribute the actual content of the mod. I'm pretty sure that Ashton would agree to let you create CW 2.0 KK INS2 lua sweps files if you agreed to not redistribute any of the original files.
