Why is there a reboot and no continuation on after Underworld?
由 Merim 制作
I will explain on why theres a reboot rather than a game that follows after Underworld. Keep noted this is all from my own theory, any opinions on it are free whether you agree or not, includes anything you wish to add. Even though theres probably some confirmation on why that happened, I figured to just say it especially to those that dont like the reboot, and up to you whether or not you are convinced or not.

Keep noted this has been made as of Shadow of the Tomb Raider, any games after should be noted that I am unaware of and may or may not update the guide as it was all for just a theory. Whether you believe mine or not is up to you.

Lara Croft
As you know, theres more than one Lara Croft throughout gaming. Starting the very first Tomb Raider, you play as Lara Amelia Croft. Who is in thrill of adventures, explores to find artifact and stop those who misuse its power for selfish desires, her last appearance was Angel of Darkness. Then you have Lara Croft, from Legend. Who is serious on her job and seeks out to know what happens to her parents, the truth of what had happened, her last appearance was Underworld. Then you have reboot, where Lara is inexperienced on adventure and throughout the time develops.
What is the point of these timelines?
Well its what makes things more interesting and keeps on going in my opinion. Not only are their lives different, but their goals as well. Some of them may potentially connect to each other, but never really explain if it really does or not. At least not yet from my perspective. In the original, it was all about Lara's adventures. You find the artifact, obtain it and made sure no one misuses it for power.

Then you have Legend Lara, who seeks out the truth behind on what her parents did and why it happened. Legend Lara's story ended after (SPOILER!) Natla in the final level told Lara everything what really happened to her parents . Lara has everything she needs to know, and that was her main purpose in the Legend Timeline which ended there, even though in my opinion the ending of her story is rather flawed since after what she had been through. But in the end, she got what she needed, which ended her story there and then the reboot happened.

Then you have Survival Lara (reboot), who is likely alot younger than the other Laras. Likely because her life on adventure starts there in the reboot game "Tomb Raider", which people tend to criticize her after everything the developers put on her involving her personality and appearance that makes it so different from the past Laras. Understandable since in some cases its out of character, but I hold a belief that theres a reason behind it since it looked like it happened before Tomb Raider 1 and some speculated it might come to that in the future. Whether it really is or not, we will have to find out.
My thoughts on Survival Lara.
I am rather neutral about her, I dont hate her but at the same time I am not that fonded with her. Even though people would hate her and bash on the design. I personally am curious about her. What I learned is theres more to her, in the newer games proves she has been developing through the time.
The fate of the past timelines.
Admittedly, I have no clue what direction will take and shouldnt be taken as a fact from everything I said, as it is entirely a theory. But more likely from what I've gathered from the 3 timelines I can think of different things.

1. 3 Laras can somehow meet up if there was a game involving going through time. Which then Survival Lara meets herself and will connect everything from the previous game timelines that ended.

2. Survival Lara will go through ALL that, and will start to change. Not sure about the appearance but more likely the personality.

3. Unless the developers decides to otherwise, take her to a far diffrent direction thats not connected to others, or start filling up another in between timelines to keep things going. Either that, or make a whole new timeline, maybe with Lara being the oldest out of them all. But, no telling where that will lead.

The future in Tomb Raider games has yet to be unraveled, and we'll have our answers when that time comes.
My conclusion.
Despite the fact that Tomb Raider was meant all about Lara going on adventure to seek out an artifact and stop others misusing its power, if one looks deeper into the story theres more to it whenever you feel Lara looks or acts different. Personally I kinda wish it stays that way, and probably make it simple as possible. But at the same time, I do like to see more stories. Whether it involves her love for adventure (Original), finding the truth about her parents (Legend), or the story on what made Lara so badass and starts doing the stuff she loves (Survival). Maybe in the future there can be all 3 at the same time, but only time can tell. We'll have to see how things go from here.
