AoE2Tools - What is it?
Aoe2tools is a dedicated utility to Age of empires 2 HD and Age of empires 2 The conquerors.
(this video was made before the public release, thus much more features and improvements has been implemented)
What Does AoE2Tools Do?



  • Automatically configures Voobly for you (Voobly [Platform where the best/most players play] )
  • Convert Age of empires 2 HD To The Conquerors (important to play on Voobly)
  • Watch recorded games using drag and drop functionality. Even drag and drop download links of recorded from any website is supported.
  • Wololokingdoms Installer/Updater integrated: Allows you to play DLCS on Voobly (You need all DLCs)
  • UserPatch Installer/updater integrated: Very smooth and outstanding Game-play experience
  • Offline Mods: Install offline mods and play without internet.

How To Convert HD & Play On Voobly?
Sign Up Voobly Account
First off, Go to https://www.voobly.com/signup and sign up a new account (easy, and No email confirmation needed)

Article Guide
  • Step 1: Download AoE2Tools from Github Releases Repo

    Download Latest Release From GitHub Releases Page: https://github.com/gregstein/AoE2Tools/releases

  • Step 2: Install AoE2Tools just like any regular program

    Double Click AoE2Tools download and click next then Install:





  • Step 3: Launch && Scan

    Click Scan Button And "1. Convert" Should Be Enabled For You. Then Click it.



  • Step 4:Pre-Converter And Personal Customization

    After You Click "1.Convert" This Small Window will be prompted:



    I Highly Recommend Using The Default Game Directory as it is Or choose Any location In Your LocalDrive "Avoid locations where your windows is installed" and avoid "ProgramFiles" for higher performance and no issues).

    The Preconverter of "HDToAoC" is able to detect where your Age of Empires 2 HD is installed. But In case you have it installed somewhere else. That "Fix It" Button Should Be Enabled For You, so Just Click it and Locate where Your copy of Age of empires 2 HD is installed.

    You Also Can Choose Which "Offline Mods" and Hotkeys You Would Like To Install. Then Click "I'm Ready Let's Go"

  • Step 5: Converting Age of Empires 2 HD

    Alright This is The Final Stage Before You Get Access To AoE2Tools and Be Able To Play On Voobly Instantly Without any Additional Settings.

    Once You Click "I'm Ready Let's Go" This window will pop up:



    Smack That Start Button And Watch Voobly Installs automatically. The conversion Should Also Start simultaneously.

    It Should Be Flawless And Smooth (no freezing) during conversion. (Keep some distance from The Monk as He might Convert you during the process)

    Once The Conversion is Over The Configuration will initiate to automatically configure Age of empires 2 for Voobly and Add the game to your Firewall.



    Voila! Once The Conversion is over. It will close automatically and prompt you to AoE2Tools.


How To Install WololoKingdom?
(Only If you have all DLCs)

Important:If you don't have all dlcs you can just skip this part!!

  • WK Cloud Installer:

Launch AoE2Tools and a Wololokingdoms Missing message displays like this:



Click Fix it and then a window should popup like this:


Now Login to Steam app installed in your computer so WK Cloud can detect your DLCs before the installation. (You need these three DLCs for this work: Forgotten Empires, African Kingdoms, Rise of Rajas)

WK Cloud installer should look like this now:


Click "Start Now?" and leave it automatically installs Wololokingdoms for you.

At the end of the installation you will be asked to import your hotkeys. Choose "Import My Steam Hotkeys"


Done.

How To Play On Voobly?

  • Login to Voobly Client Like this:


  • Once you are logged in; a Game Browser window will pop up like this:


New Player Lobby: Join If your Steam ELO is as low as 1700 or bellow.
RM/DM Medieval Siege: Join If your Steam ELO is over 1700.

This is how any of Lobbies Looks like:


  • How to Join a Room?
Simple, Click "Join" (Check Image Below)


And wait for the host to Launch the game as It should start automatically for you

  • How to host a Room?

    Click "Quick Host" (Check Image Below)


    Then a Game Room Pops Up:


    • Game Tile: Set your game title here
    • Game Description: Set a description such as rules or settings etc.
    • Room Size: Number of Players allowed
    • Patch: Always Choose the Latest for better experience
    • Rated Game: Rank/UnRank your game
    • Required Elo: (optional) Not advised! But you can set ELO limit of players that join your game
    • Mod: You can choose mods as such Wololokingdoms or download others from here: https://www.voobly.com/games/view/Age-of-Empires-II-The-Conquerors/Game-Mods/gamemods/browse2/13/0

    (Once You set these things up, they will be automatically saved)

    Now All you have to do is wait players to join and Click that Launch Button next to Settings. Then the game will automatically Launch.

    [Keep In Mind that as the game launches, It should start in a window mode which is totally fine. But once the actual game starts; It goes full screen. You may wonder why window mode? Because When it is full screen at the start , ALT-TAB takes to long to take effect.]

    • How to Spectate a Game?
    As simple as joining the game, Just Click "Watch" (Check Image Below)


    I highly recommend that you install this visual mod: https://www.voobly.com/gamemods/mod/487/Spectator-Overlay
    You will be able to see thorough ingame stats such as researched upgrades, age advancement, number of units/villagers etc. Very useful to help you learn.

    Voobly Mods Workshop

    This is Voobly's Mods Workshop: https://www.voobly.com/games/view/Age-of-Empires-II-The-Conquerors/Game-Mods

    • Visual or Content Mods: Just Visual and graphic mods such as: Small trees, terrains, etc.
    • Game Play or Data Mods: These mods must be downloaded by other players that join your room. Such as Wololokingdoms, Zombie Apocalypse, Advanced Statistics, etc.
    • Patches: (You may not need them at all) Patches may introduce performance fixes, balance changes or change how the game works.
How To Import Your Hotkeys
Go to https://aokhotkeys.appspot.com/ And browse your hotkey file, usually located at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Age2HD\Profiles\player0.hki"

Then Click "Edit File" button:


Choose "AoC/FE/HD2.0" version:


Import the new downloaded hotkey file like this in 1,2,3 order:


Click Install and It is done!

I admit that your programming abilities are pretty impressive. I wish that someone would fix the glitch in AOE1-2:DE that keeps everyone from adding Instruction Screen Maps to their Scenarios like they could in AOE1 and AOE2 (original versions).

@rakovsky Sorry brother! Long time I did not check comments on this guide. I hope you sorted out the problem. The fact that you're getting those color bugs means you're on windows 7 pack 1 or some limited/light version.
Search for Universal theme patcher for win7 and disable aero theme after that download this tool http://aok.heavengames.com/blacksmith/showfile.php?fileid=11108 and select exe files to patch the color bugs.

If you want to avoid all these issues you can install windows 7 pack 2 ultimate (4gb size) or install windows 10.

Gregstein,

Good job making AOE2Tools, but I have the Blue/Purple/Red shade screen problem when I use it. I have Steam's AOK:HD (2013) version and want to use AOE2Tools to run it in the original AOE2 mode.

I installed AOE2TOOLS and then in the main AOE2Tools menu I chose 1.0C as the version. I don't think that AOE2Tools lets me run AOE2 (original mode) directly from AOE2Tools and I think that I have to use the Browse Folder option in the program instead. So I went to Browse Folder in the lower left corner of the menu and it opened a Microsoft Games\Age of Empires II folder. There I chose the Empires2.EXE file. It started to load up like it was the original game, but then an error screen showed up saying "Age of Empires II has stopped working A problem caused the program to stop working correctly." Next, I went to the folder there called "Age2_x1" and saw in it several .exe files like "age2_x1.0c". I clicked on that file and it did run the AOE2 program successfully, but it ran it with the blue/purple screen graphics problem. I notice that the AOE2TOOLS' "Microsoft Games\Age of Empires II" folder actually comes with Userpatch there, and so I did in fact run the Userpatch exe there, and that did not fix the Blue graphics problem either. Next, I moved the Userpatch Exe to the folder named "Age2_x1" and selected the option in Userpatch to Create ""age2_x1.0c.exe", and after running that, the "age2_x1.0c.exe" file did not work there either.

@Koger Once the game has started it should go full screen. It runs in window mode for the solemn purpose of performance and ability to record your games. However, if the game has started but it's not in full screen you should press F10 > Options and then choose your preferred resolution. Then the next games you play they should always go full screen.

Additionally, do not forget to make use of the utility 'Tweaker' within AoE2Tools to increase FPS and do other customization.

@GregStein thank you for the answer, it worked.
I have other problem, maybe you can help - when starting AoE2 from AoE2Tools (manually from menu or when running recorded game) it won't run in fullscreen, if chosen resolution is lower than screens resolution. There's no such problem, when starting the game from Voobly. Do you have any suggestions for that?

How hotkeys' installing works? I chose AoE2 HD hotkeys, pressed Install and it seemed to work. Then started Voobly game and had to play with AoC keys... Clear instruction is needed
