Version 1.06 should fix these issues permanently, just make sure you have a graphics card with Shader Model 3 or above.

NEW (old) UPDATE

Before following this guide, please ensure your copy of Sonic Mania is updated to the latest version.

Symptom

Filters stop working, the graphics become blurry, and/or the videos play in black and white.

Cause

Sonic Mania incorrectly detects your graphics card as not having Shader Model 3 support, due to one or more bugs in the latest update. After detecting this glitch the configuration is changed to disable shaders permanently.

Solution

If Sonic Mania is currently open, exit it before continuing.
Open the game folder. If you don't know where it is, right click Sonic Mania in Steam, select Properties, click the LOCAL FILES tab, and click BROWSE LOCAL FILES...
Open the file Settings.ini (it may appear as just Settings in Windows Explorer).
Look for the line shaderSupport=n and then change it to read shaderSupport=y
Enjoy having shader support once again.

Instead of editing the Settings.ini file, you can also just delete it or rename it to something like Settings.ini.bak or Settings.ini.old. The game will redect your graphics card and create a new Settings.ini file on next launch and the issue should be fixed as well.

Also, I noticed that WineD3D has some serious CPU usage issues, at least with Sonic Mania, like it (the WindD3D runtime) must have some thread constantly spinning.

Weird, I think they were B&W on WineD3D for me.

@carlrevolution The FMVs can be fixed by following this guide . I don't know how to fix the save select glitch, though.

When I got sonic mania plus the videos are super slow and the time attack menu sometimes but I have amd radeon and it should run well . Also there is this bug where if I scroll on the save select it freezes for a split second and then moves I think mine is broken what do I do

You might have to try adjusting Settings.ini manually until Sega (or Christian Whitehead) can get this fixed.
