Tesla Pistol

This is a revamped Newton Launcher I created for my server - Laidback Gaming.

It knocks players back in a radius around the impact site when it hits something, makes a distinctive sound and particle effect. You can also make yourself 'Tesla Jump' with it as a Traitor, like how one can rocket jump in TF2.



Why install this?


The point is to add more usage and effectiveness to the Newton Launcher as well as make it more subtle. If you install this, I recommend you remove the Newton Launcher from your server as this is designed to be a straight upgrade.

The Tesla Pistol uses the Tooltip Model, making it much more discreet as even from as little as 500 units away it looks like a regular pistol. The standard Newton Launcher is very obvious when held due to the unique 'physgun' holdtype. This, coupled with the fact you must charge it and you're not guaranteed a kill makes it pretty much obselete on any map that doesn't have falling as a main cause of death, restricting it to maps such as Rooftops, Skyscraper and Sky Islands maps. Contrast this with another weapon that switches your holdtype, the knife. This weapon guarantees you a kill provided the player you target is below 50hp, which you can check by looking at their state before even pulling the knife out.

In short, the Newton Launcher is a cool weapon, but it sees only limited usage because of the above problems. The Tesla Pistol is more discreet and more effective at killing due to knocking players back in a radius.

The most important feature of the Tesla Pistol however is the ability to 'Tesla Jump' with it. By shooting beneath you, you can jump with the gun, allowing you to travel across the map in a skill-based way. So even if the map you are on doesn't have much in the way of pushing players to their deaths, the Tesla Pistol allows you to have more directions of attack by giving you the ability to jump to otherwise inaccessible areas and also drop from heights that would previously had killed you by firing directly beneath you before you land.
