Historical Notes:

Lead ship of her class of destroyers built for the Imperial Japanese Navy in the 1920's. The Kamikaze class was a follow-up to the Minekaze class with minor changes and together with the Mutsuki class the three are often considered to be part of a single, extended class.

Armament as of 1930 consisted of 5x1 120mm/45 Type 3 guns, 2x1 7.7mm/80 Type 92 AA guns and 3x2 533.4mm torpedo launchers.

The Kamikaze class consisted of 9 ships, Kamikaze (Divine Wind), Asakaze (Morning Wind), Harukaze (Spring Wind), Matsukaze (Pine Tree Wind), Hatakaze (Flag Wind), Oite (Tail Wind), Hayate (Gale), Asanagi (Morning Calm) and Yunagi (Evening Calm).

Eighteen more ships had been planned, but were cancelled with the Washington Naval Treaty. Of these, only two had received names, Okaze (Great Wind) and Tsumujikaze (Whirlwind).
