So many people have wanted or tried to make a gmod server and failed.

There are several problems with their methods and here i will simply point out the basic flaws many new server owners do and reasons why they fail so often.

Do i have to say do not darkrp? Just dont

1. Many new servers have limited budgets lets face it, but don't go get the cheapest host you can find that's on other side of the planet just because they have a nice website or your "friend" told you they are awesome. Let's be honest here, a cheap host sucks, IF you do start becoming popular the very First thing that will happen is the scum other server owners will notice you on the list and they will ddos you until your player base is nothing again (it happens everyday it's ok we can talk about it). Also having a host other side of the world causes hella ping issues, but the ddos is your enemy, and who wants to change hosting once a server is rocking? Why pay $11 per month for basic slot hosts when you can have the Exact same hosting the Top servers are using? Be real , they use those host for a good reason, and so should you if you are serious, the pricing is exactly the same, however the service is Vastly different.
Currently xenonserver sucks balls and is exploitable (if you send in a support ticket regarding ddos they make excuses and offer to change your server ip which makes players not able to find you blah blah it sucks balls) NFO hosts,cryon,etc we have found to be exploitable to ddoss attacks, that is why none of the top servers use them <----- i mean that's your first clue at what a quality server really is. So don't screw yourself, get a good server host, currently Only GMC Hosting offers actuall ddos protection not just ddoss mitigation.


2. If you cannot code your own job files/add-ons etc, you most likely will fail in the end and be backstabbed by one of the million "devs" running around steam posing as a dev saying how many servers they have owned etc etc <---- also happens everyday.
Face it, you cannot rely on others if you are a server owner, owning a server isn't just set ip up and it rocks, it's daily tweaking and bug fixes. There just isn't any practical way you could afford to pay someone to come over and set it all up LEGIT and keep fixing ur bugs.

3.Using "leaked" scripts , is generally a terrible idea, they are full of backdoors and known key loggers and rat files.
We have even found regular steam workshop items with backdoors in them, so if you don't know to look thru the code and find those things, well someone can just login , give themself super admin, ban all players and you and shut down the server from in game, that is exactly what the user: MuslimModz did in his steam workshop addons i found and exposed (thankfully steam removed his addons) , but i am positive there are many more out there.

4.Ok don't go buy a paid host before you've built the server DUH, this is the #1 fail of all new server owners. They pay for hosting, then try to dev it so fast and get players before next months bill comes for the host lol, pressure combined with un experience will result in fail.
Build a local server on your desktop, get EVERY single job and entitie/category etc perfect, test it all out on local machine server, and when you feel confident pull the trigger, go pay for hosting and drag those files over, it's ready to run first day. Come on guys THINK. Don't set yourself up for failure.

5.Web forums SQL hosting and Donation Systems. Ok this is important for me , but many dont even know about this.
The best server donation system out there by far is promethieus, but it requires web hosting, and web hosting is sql vulnerable. So if you have poor hosting set-up or a cheap host, it is potentially dangerous to use those systems because of SQL injections. I hate to brag on em again, but GMC Hosting is the only game host that provides you with a free dedicated ip just for your donation system, so you dont need a paid website for that, you dont need sql, they cant inject it because it doesnt use sql. They dont know what the ip because it is routed thru the game server. Prometheius takes a little time to plug in all your perma player packages in that you might want to sell, but once it's done it is automatic, they buy a weapon or whatever, it instantly give it to them in game.
***Update Sdonate is a great Alternate donation system that will handle Gmod and many other games.
