Sponsors can be selected at the beginning of a colonization attempt. They fund your expedition to mars and provide a base amount of research to assist your colonization of Mars.

Commander Profiles are descriptions of the leader of the mission.

Mission Sponsor
Different agencies offer different amounts of funding and together with your starting location on Mars determine the initial difficulty of the game.

They will also affect the price that you will receive for any rare metals exported back to Earth. They also determine the number of initial applicants available for you to recruit colonists from.

i found it useful. since once you start a save you cant tell what your perks are without quiting and going back to the main menu and starting a save.. or looking it up..
