Easy fix
I got my own game working by adding some launch options in the game properties. Silver-->right click-->Properties
Then just click "SET LAUNCH OPTIONS..." and the new box will be appear.
Those are my options.
SAFE Starts without opengl support, and your game should start after adding this.
WINDOW Starts game in windowed mode.
UNCAPPED Doesn't really fix anything, just for fun. ":D"

so finally after a couple of years i found out how to solve this issue at least for me...
so click on the game and select browse local files...then right click on the launcher and select properties...then select compatibility and change compatibility mode to windows 95 and apply....i saw this on another game (secrets of monkey island) and I've been having similar issues with and it worked it has worked for every game I've had issue with so far

So, I tried the UNCAPPED option: Normally, the game runs at 30fps. With UNCAPPED it runs at 75fps in my case, but animations, fighting, running are much faster, so it's nonsense.

well it lets me get to the main menu now but when i click new game it freezes black screen any other ideas?
