"This is a screenshot from the third prototype of LandTraveller done back in fall of 2013. It would've looked prettier, cuter, and more immersive, but also require over 4 times the development for gameplay inferior to what I settled upon now. The game felt like it was missing character and arguably couldn't be more than an impressive tech demo. Making the gameplay fun would be more difficult in many areas. For example, lining up tools and weapons from sprite characters into a 3D environment so that it was easy to interact and hit things was a problem I never fully solved. Gameplay is always priority one and with LandTraveller's current form also being less intense development-wise, the choice was obvious."

You would've traded it for a difficult 3rd person camera. Even Divinity: Original Sin 2 had an excellent 3rd person camera system with cutaway shading for objects in front and I still have a hard time trying to see myself in that game in some places.

it certainly would have made the depth perception easier. I still find it hard to tell which block I am targeting
