Since June I was asked to make a custom acid etched skins with normal map. Finally, I created first two skins and opened this collection for more skins to come.

I will try to stick to real metal finishing techniques as close as possible. For now, the collection includes two variations of P2000

The acid etching and the shiny was accomplished in the following way:
Steel was degreased and then acid resistant substance was applied through a stencil. After the preparation, the parts were placed in ferric chloride for 25 min to achieve this deep etch. Then, the steel was cleaned and well-polished. Finally, the TiN coat was baked onto the surface, in order to ensure superior durability and protect the metal from rusting after the etching.

Please not, the golden look comes from the Titanium Nitride being baked on top of highly polished steel. This process was imitated on purpose, because acid etched areas are subject to corrosion and rusting. NiT coating protects the metal from it and provides superior durability.
