This is the WOTC version. In my testing it seems to work just fine with TLP.
Vanilla version is here: http://psteamcommunity.yuanyoumao.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=634268994

This mod adds a Random Appearance button (which makes default-looking soldiers and is configurable) and a Totally Random button (if you want to make zany clown soldiers). It has a set of checkboxes to lock traits, as depicted in the screenshots. It also has an Undo with a limited buffer, in case you click too quickly.

Click Toggle Options to open a panel that will allow you to "lock" traits and prevent them from being changed.

* The Random Appearance button * generates a 'reasonable looking soldier' as requested by users. Most of the chances are based on the game's default chances for props, but these are all configurable in XComRandomAppearanceButton.ini if you'd like to tweak them. (Note that this mod will ignore the silders in the game's core options in this regard.)

That config file ought to be here: ...\Steam\SteamApps\workshop\content\268500\634268994\Config

* The Totally Random button * does just what it says and will result in clowns at least half of the time. (It will respect the checkboxes.)

* The Undo button * will rollback the effects of the mod's buttons as well as any manual edits you make to generated appearances; it will NOT respect the checkboxes and will only undo appearances generated by the mod and manual modifications to those generated appearances. (NOTE this can be a touch buggy at times. If you see weirdness, please describe to me what it was and what buttons you clicked just before seeing it, if you can.)

* * * CAVEATS * * *

The Undo button will always ignore the checkboxes, because it's an Undo and respecting the checkboxes wouldn't rollback...it would generate a new appearance. Also, switching gender can make Undo a little weird so, buyer beware. (Or if you're a brave soul, help me test and figure this out.)

Note that - just as the default UI is - this mod is constrained by whatever armor (e.g. Resistance Warrior vs standard Kevlar) your soldier is wearing prior to coming into Customization.

Despite my efforts, I can't get Undo to work unless you've already generated an appearance with the mod itself. I'll keep trying, but for now them's the brakes.

VOICE isn't currently rolled for. Some have requested this so I've looked into it, and honestly I still don't see it happening, primarily because I could never guarantee the kind of support I have for prop packs (e.g. Capnbubs) for voice packs, which would be super lame.

ATTITUDE isn't currently rolled for, and this is a weird one since if it *was* rolled for you'd never see it on the Customization screen: recall that the soldier's forced into a By-the-Book attitude stance on this screen no matter what, so you can see your prop changes easily. So, probably I'll never add this one either.

GENDER. Switching the soldier's gender effectively generates a new soldier, preserving the settings for the previous gender; this is just how XCOM 2 handles it, not the mod. You can freely toggle between genders: each keeps their own distinct looks. (Not much benefit here but no harm, as far as I can tell.) You can also Undo gender changes (but note that this will not persist your uniform changes *backwards*.) I did for a time experiment with persisting random appearances across clicks of the Toggle Gender button which I did like BUT really ran into a brickwall: some props (e.g. Hairstyles) don't exist for both genders, so when switching between them, where do we go? I can't answer that question in a way that satisfies me, haha. So, that's where I am with that.

* * * KNOWN ISSUES AND BUGS. * * *

FACTION SOLDIER COMPONENTS CAN'T BE LOCKED.
Issue tracked here: https://github.com/thadeshammer/WOTC-xcom2-random-appearance-button/issues/3

VOICE PACKS DON'T ALWAYS LIKE IT. Some custom Voice Packs actually conflict with this mod, as reported by several users. No idea why (this mod doesn't touch voices). If it doesn't work for you, try loading it up without voice pack mods.

SLOW DOWN. The mod will experience some intense slowdown if you have a lot of mods that add props, or sometimes it will even if you don't. This is 'normal' but undesirable. I have managed some optimizations which do seem to speed things up considerably, but there's still a limit. It's just a bit higher now. :)

WHILE IN A SUBMENU. If you click one of the mod's buttons while editing a specific trait with the UI (e.g. if you're in the eye color chooser and click Random Appearance) it 1. won't change the appearance and 2. will likely kick the camera in the teeth and you'll be stuck at the submenu's zoom. WORKAROUND: don't do it. If you did it, back out (hit ESC) and dive back in. (I have no idea how to fix this, unfortunately.)

4:3 RESOLUTIONS. Some have reported that the mod doesn't always work for 4:3 resolutions, due to where the panel has been placed on screen. In my testing, the buttons are a little cut off...others have told me they just don't see the buttons. I suspect in those cases that the 4:3 setting is a red herring and that some other mod is to blame, but I can't know for sure.

PROPS THAT JUST DON'T GO TOGETHER. Some mods add new props that just don't work with props from other mods; my mod will still randomly plop them together sometimes because it's all about clipping and aesthetics, a nontrivial problem in computer science. Sorry. :) Use the lock checkboxes liberally! Or don't...sometimes I'll find some really interesting combos this way, especially with Free the Hood and Capnbubs. Tweak by hand! :)

SPARK SUPPORT. It's not currently implemented. I think I've finally come up with a way to tease Spark support apart from general support (in all of my mods) which is good since otherwise I end up force requiring Shen's Last Gift which not all users have. (Most of you seem to though.) This is on my TODO list.

This mod is awesome, however one little issue I found is that it doesn't randomize skin color (at least with More Skin Color mod), it is set to the first one

Any chance to make it compatible with Project Dollhouse ? Thank you

For ultrawide users, the easiest way to use this mod is to switch to windowed 1920*1080. The option button will show up normally. Use it to randomize your soldier, then switch back to your default resolution for the normal gameplay

When I randomize faction soldiers, back out, and then go back to them their arms disappear for some reason: https://imgur.com/a/IcxvoST

Gotcha, @p6kocka ... Unfortunately, that sounds like you'd need some kind of a merger between parts of my mod and parts of the uniform manager to do that.
p6kocka 2023 年 7 月 22 日 上午 1:44
So I don't have to click in the options every time I want to randomize the appearance
p6kocka 2023 年 7 月 22 日 上午 1:43
Ok. I don't want to save the uniform. I just want to exclude the changes to head

@p6kocka Not natively to this mod, no; it _might_ still play well with the uniform manager mod (i.e. you make the uniform with this mod then use that mod to 'save' it and apply it to other operators) but I haven't played with the uniforms mod in years.
p6kocka 2023 年 7 月 21 日 上午 10:02
Is it possible to save the changes I have done in the options? So they persist for every soldiers.
