UPDATE (with a less overwhelming guide)
For the new version of Brick Rigs (1.2+)

  1. Create a thumbnail for your vehicle in an image editor of your choice, and save it as a 512x512 pixels .PNG file

  2. Open Brick Rigs and load a level

  3. Open the editor (Press O)

  4. Select your vehicle

  5. In the bottom right, select "Open containing folder"

  6. In the folder that just opened, replace "Preview.png" with the thumbnail you created earlier
(Make sure it gets REPLACED, there will be a popup dialog box asking you to confirm)

  7. Restart Brick Rigs

  8. Open the editor again, and the thumbnail should have updated. You can now upload or update your creation.

  9. If it didn't work, follow the guide again and make sure you read step 1 and 6 closely.

For the legacy version of Brick Rigs, and for a simple way to make a thumbnail, follow the guide below.

Part 1: Creating the thumbnail itself
Step 1:
a. Make sure your vehicle is saved and remember what you named it.
b. Create a placeholder thumbnail by pressing INSERT (default binding). A popup should appear in the bottom-left corner of the screen.

Step 2:
a. Take a screenshot with a good angle of your vehicle. (F12)

b. Navigate to your screenshot through the main Steam window, then click "Show on Disk":

Step 3:
a. Right-click your image, and select "Edit"

b. Select a square around the car, then crop it

c. Resize the image to 512x512 (this is the default resolution; you can try higher values, but I can't guarantee they will work)

d. Save it anywhere, as PNG and name it the same exact name you gave your vehicle.

Part 2: Applying the new thumbnail
Step 4:
a. press Windows Key + R, it will open a dialogue box.
b. Type in '%appdata%'

c. It will open a folder, go up one page.

d. Navigate to:

Step 5
Find the thumbnail file for your car and replace it with the file you saved earlier.

Step 6
Go back into the game and upload your vehicle to the Workshop.

Step 7
a. ???
b. Profit

this guide is likely outdated, although the picture wont be that good, you can press "Insert" or "Ins" on some keyboards and it'll take a picture and automatically use that at the thumbnail

I did all the steps and yet my thumbnail will not show. I think it has to do with the fact that i recycled the preview file and put the thumbnail file in

the method for the current version of the game is at the beginning of the guide, the rest is for the legacy version. the thumbnails were moved to the same folder the vehicle file is saved in

I have updated the guide with a less exhaustive method for the newest version of BR. If anything remains unclear, let me know and I will add it.
