One thing I would add for new players is don't get too hung up on making a "Super tactic" or player stats. Sure these are important, but there's more to doing well in FM than that. For instance the mental side of the game.
This is an area many new players seem to neglect, i.e. actually managing your players. By this I mean keeping up morale and thinking about how to keep your players focused and on their toes.
This done by using Team Meetings and individual chats to keep morale up, Press Conferences and match Team Talks.
Don't be afraid to swich them mid game. I like to work my way up the leagues and I'm hitting a point (in 2021-2022 season) where I can't just steamroll teams with the same tactics throughout the whole game. I used a good 4-2-3-1 for a few seasons with great success, but it's not working anymore.
I have been starting some with a 4-2-2-2 (higher up with the wingers and strikers), and if I can get a goal (or I'm getting my a** kicked in possession) , I set things back to a 4-4-2, or 4-2-3-1 and defend.
I have been trying to find a good 5-3-2 (or 5-2-3) in my Reggina (Italian) save, but finding good wingbacks in lower levels isn't easy.
