Z - Heavy kick ("accept" when navigating the menu screen)
X - Medium kick ("cancel" when navigating the menu screen)
C - Light kick
A - Heavy punch
S - Medium punch
D - Light punch
With this layout you throw by pressing C(Light kick) + D(Light punch), pressing C+D at the same time is not as awkward as pressing Z+A at the same time, which you have to do if you want to throw with the default layout.
If you're still not convinved then let me point out that all the fight sticks that enthusiasts use all have their Light punch and Light kick closer to their stick than the other buttons. With the above mentioned layout you'll emulate that.
But all of this is secondary to actually playing the game, who cares about what a random like me says about button layouts, just play the freaking game.
