16bit tiff is rgb48p, lzw is lossless, so does approx. 0.6 compression. say we have 24fps DCI 2k flat, so 3min need:
(((1998*1080*3*16)/8)*24*60*3)*0.6=33GB
If you don't have 444 original material but 422 or lower you can half the space by using rgb24p instead. if you then want to maintain the input bit depth you can also use codecs which render yuv components, like exr, and use yuv422p10 or 12 or whatever.
but be aware that 422 10bit is 20bit per pixel (y and uv are 3 components but uv shares one pixel-depth in 422) so it is y10 u5 v5 which is less information per color component than r8g8b8 (thus 422) but still 10bit for the luma channel. you def. need 12bit for 422 to get the benefits of a higher bit depth in regard to color rendering.
if you have h264 input, which is yuv420p with 6bit luma and 6bit uv, with 46Mb/s, you can actually use exr lossless zip compressed with 12bit per pixel (not component) and then you would have:
(1998*1080*12)/8)*24*60*3)*0.6=8GB
