Last played this over 3 years ago; randomly see it's been updated recently so I pop back to check the reviews and they are even lower than when this game came out.

I played until I started getting to group content, the gameplay up to that point is pretty solid until you get to the upper end of the leveling system and then you'll start group content for dungeon, and when you get to the end of the dungeon anticipating loot you instead get a pop-up explaining that loot drops from dungeons and raids are only for "premium" players (can't remember if it was a subscription thing or if it was saying loot rewards are essentially a tack-on like buying a key for a lootbox) and that is the point where I just got up and left and never returned.

I've played some Pay-to-win/pay-to-skip slop games before to kill a few hours but this game is completely built around it... and that's not hyperbole, it feels like they had the monetization plan first and THEN built a game around it in the same way the A-10 ground attack aircraft is not a "plane with a GAU-8 30mm chaingun" it's a "GAU-8 30mm chaingun with wings", and it's rather fitting that that's the example that came to mind as the GAU-8 has a fire rate of of up 4,200 rounds per minuet and Lost Ark throws about 4,200 microtransactions per minuet at you at endgame.

TL/DR: 7/10 - BF6 looks and sounds great but feels sanitized, rushed, and too COD-like.
Maps and Conquest design are weak, progression’s messy, and veterans will find it shallow and uninspired.

So, I made sure I got some hours in before really passing judgement and I have to say I think all the positivity around BF6 is a honeymoon phase, I think this is a passable entry but also among one of the most boring.
I was trying to come up with a word that really distills the experience as a "BF vet " who started on BF2 and played everything except Hardline, and I think "sanitized" is a pretty good fit, that and unfinished/inconsistent quality. The maps are poorly designed, some are ok but most just feel like a battle arena where you can't really use any of the observable verticality and gadgets like the assault ladder are mere gimmics, most of the places you'd expect to be able to place it are blocked off, but people can use exploits to get up where you feasibly should be able to with tools and teamwork.
Even areas like the outside of a building are arbitratily blocked off with a "out of combat" warning while the roofs people can exploit onto are clear of any such issue, so all the ladder can be used for are, once again, highly sanitized uses that lend no creativity, thus pretty much most fights are just choke points and/or kill zones with little tactical variation.
Conquest mode is poor because currently most of the maps except 2 actually feel like they were designed for conquest. A lot of the maps feel like COD's Ground War mode where it's not really "open" but more like a long rectangle/corridor that does everything it can to funnel players into each other rather than open up tactical approaches to objectives.

Progression is not class based, and if you mostly play 1 or 2 classes you will be unlocking a lot of useless gadgets for other classes you don't use before unlocking things for the ones that you do use.
The combat pace is also probably the fastest of the series.

Visually the game is great and seems to be reasonably well optimized. The sound effects are great too and there are ample "pure cinema" moments, and if you are new to the series I'm sure you'll have a blast, but for anyone with past experience with the Battlefield series it'll feel like home-but-not, which is unfortunate, as I really wanted to like it, and I'm not saying it's a bad game because if you called it something else, like a stand alone entry like Battlefield Heroes, it would be one thing but a main entry to the franchise I think is a bit too far.

There does feel like a certain level of "CODification". Maybe it's the movement. Maybe it's the forced faster pace and more "meat grinder" gameplay. but it does feel....Well, as I said. Sanitized. Also the season 1 skins aren't exactly sticking to the military theme of the game what with a gold plated sniper rifle.

I'll keep playing until something better comes along but I do regret the purchase somewhat. 7/10

Definitely better with one or more friends but still enjoyable doing low threat missions to eek out some progression while waiting for them to come online. Only played a bit (kind of want to wait for the full release) but it seems well polished, well optimized, with a nice art style. Gameplay wise I'd say it plays a little like Sea of Thieves in space with a sector based, multiple choice pathway from start to finish. Certainly not one to miss.

Not reviewing PoE 2 until it's out of early access but I did just want to spend a moment to appreciate just how many ex-PoE1 players are losing their ♥♥♥♥ over gradually realizing PoE 2 isn't PoE 2.0, as expressed by the developers before early access dropped, but a more souls-like take on the ARPG genre.
The people leaving negative reviews are doing so because they can no longer steamroll half the content by making almost any build OP (there are some op builds, which are getting nerfed, these boyos be mad and are leaving negative reviews).

There are more than enough traditional ARPGs on the market, PoE 2 is a break from tradition to bring something more hardcore and rewarding in terms of personal progression because unlike PoE 1 your passive defenses are now just buffers for when you fail to use your active defenses and position yourself wrong and when you play well you can avoid getting hit entirely just like in a Souls game buuuuuut these negative Nancies don't want to learn or get better at something they just want to run through content as fast as possible with some meta build they've seen their favorite streamer use. Booooring.

DMC5 is great, and has all the style and humor you'd expect from DMC. Graphics are great, combat is responsive . But personally for me it's a 7/10 instead of a 8 or 9/10 because it forces you to change characters and each of them have different play styles (yeah I came into the franchise at DMC3 when I was a teen so, while I know the series has always favored more than one playable character but I prefer the single character ones and all the reviews i read made it sound like you choose who you play as but that actually only happens a few times on a few specific missions throughout the story, so if you're wanting that ''one character'' experience then DMC5 isn't going to scratch that specific itch).
It's a bit jarring for me to go from V to Nero and vice versa and while I find V to be the ''easiest'' character to play, almost too easy at times, I just love his talking demon bird (Griffon) that ♥♥♥♥ talks all the enemies and particularly the bosses while I'm fighting them so I would have loved for the game to have a game mode where you can just play through it all as 1 character after completing the game once but alas, it does not, so I'll gradually get through it but DMC5 is going to be a ''one and done'' game for me. Picked it up in a sale for £6 though so I can't complain too much.

TL/DR: Space Marine 2 is a great co-op 3rd person shooter/hack n slash that will be loved even more by fans of Space Marines and the 40k universe in general, 8/10.

The only thing I find to be wanting is the content; the entire campaign is great but the ''operations'' game mode really does need more meat on it's bones as 6 maps will get old fast, even with the combat being as fast, frantic and fun as it is. I'd also prefer it if the devs allowed players to choose whatever class they want to be rather than only allow 1 class per mission as it's quite annoying to be trying to get progression on one class only to be forced to play another. Customization is good, weapon choice is good and there's a class for everyone be it the versatile but generic tactical marine to the ranged focused heavy marine to the melee focused stalwart marine.

Hopefully the devs will keep expanding and refining Space Marine 2 into a larger, broader and meatier experience. I have hopes that Space Marine 3, if it ever happens, leans more into being your own marine within the Astartes, in a co-op setting, but with more varied co-op missions that incorporate procedural generation to some degree, I mean, if you took this game but crossed it with Helldivers 2, with you and your friends being part of a 3-4 man kill team from the Deathwatch chapter, rocking up to new planets and fighting any number of 40k factions for any number of reasons, this would be an easy, EASY 9.5/10 right off the bat, even with it's class system, 10/10 if they did away with the class system and just had the class abilities as wargear.
So, fingers crossed for the next iteration of the game being a more diverse experience. but as it stands, if you love 40k lore and the Adeptus Astartes, you will love this game. It's not perfect, but it is a good and true representation of the 40k universe and lore with solid gameplay.

Not bad but nothing to write home about either. Feels like a mix of a 3rd person Halo Infinite movement/traversal, the shoot 'n' loot gameplay of Destiny 2(ish), and the individual characters with specific powers and upgrade system of Warframe, but without any of it's own 'razzle dazzle'. Now, I will quickly preface that the 2 previously mentioned live service games (Destiny 2 and Warframe) have had many years of iteration and refinement as well as content updates and we can't expect a new release to compete with them in terms of content and scope and over the coming years The First Descendant may well mature into something truly unique and spectacular, however...

I've only played the first zone so far, which is split into 3 sub-zones, each with a cluster of 'story' missions and other activities, however they feel rather small and traversal onto the tallest of structures is blocked by invisible walls (which annoys me, being able to grapple a location only to be artificially pushed off is bad level design in my eyes as it breaks immersion). Combat feels fine but could do with some refinement i think, it's a tad clunky. Serviceable, but clunky. The art style is quite cool, has some Final Fantasy vibes at times.

Build customization wise you have 3 weapons slots, each weapon having multiple mod slots (think Warframe) and your character has 8 mod slots (again like warframe) but 2 are reserved for specific functions (for instance one modifies your melee attack) along with 'gear' slots (like head, chest, boots in traditional RPGs), so there does at least appear to be fairly extensive build choices.
Overall, a bit average, but free, so you have nothing to lose by trying it for yourself.

Oh and to all of those are buying premium currency after only putting a few hours into the game; if you're that compelled, that quickly, to want to skip progress then...maybe this game isn't for you. Either you like the gameplay thus the grind is bearable, or it isn't bearable and you're just going to leave a salty message after 1 week about a lack of content and it being boring. Stop it. Get some help.

Poorly optimised and once again boring and repetitive gameplay loops. Frontier still haven't fixed the many bugs that riddle the entire game. They changed engineering forcing you to downgrade a previous modification and don't give you the resources to get back to the grade you were previously at. Weapon and suit engineering is worse the ship engineering, don't bother with it, just check the shop at every station you dock at as there's a chance every Thusday reset that a shop's inventory gets an ungraded and potentially modded weapon/suit that just costs more credits than base, saving you to idiotic grind to get the mats yourself.

Now to harm their already shattered reputation even further the geniuses at Frontier have decided to add pay to win 'pre-built' ships for real money in the ARX store that has NO REBUY COST if it get's destroyed and are higher rated than their stock counter part, in their own words 'to help players who don't have time to unlock the ships through regular play' aka 'we made our game super grindy, and now we're selling to the solution for a premium', they think they're Ubisoft now it seems.

Here's an idea for the chaps and chapettes at Frontier; If you want to make money with your game, maybe try FIXING THE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ THING FIRST, then try adding some meaningful content that is actually emergent instead of a tedious grind and dragging out the Thargoid war because you have no idea where to go from here, then maybe, just maybe, you'll start getting the playerbase you once had back (and maybe get your stock price back up as well. Oh how you were riding high on £33 odd per share while people had faith, and now you're back down to barely £3 per share lol) but no, instead you decide to follow the same trend as large publishers and developers and fired a good portion of your development team.

Honestly, it's quite the boring slog. Deliberate pay 2 win elements and a weak matchmaking system leads to most games being stupidly one sided.

I mean it's free so, by all means, see for yourself. But I'd recommend that if you like military aircraft just buy a full paid sim, like a DCS module or IL-2 Sturmovik, because although they might seem a bit pricey they still respect your time and wallet more than War Thunder does.
