Come on man!

when i started playing this game i thought :"hey this is cool! nice art style, i like the idea of getting armor pieces and weapons that i can change out. many different playstyles. lets go"

but the more i played, the more it became clear that this game is held back by a lot of unnecessary limitations. it feels like slay the spires slower little brother.

what i love about sts is that you can become ridiculously overpowered which is the point of a roguelike in my opinion.
the devs should embrace the opportunity to make you overpowered and add strong synergies.
instead you always have to decide which item you want to keep and which to sell so potential synergies go out the window all the time and by the time you meet the final boss, it feels like you barely got a build going.

of course it shouldnt be completely unbalanced cause that would be boring too.
i think this game needs and endless mode and something llike artifacts that add on top of each other like in sts where you dont have to choose which ones to keep. maybe even something like gems that you can add to weapons or armor to improve their abilities and synergies.

and add one or two more stages before the final boss so you have more time to get something going.
i'm writing this review not because i hate the game but because i'm disappointed by the lost potential.

if i could still refund it, i would. cause why play this if you can play sts instead?

absolutely amazing game and worth every penny.

If you're thinking to yourself "i mean it sounds cool on paper but it just looks like @ss " ..dont worry about it. you wont even care once you start getting into it.

there is a lot to learn about this game but the learning curve is really not too bad since new mechanics are getting involved bit by bit and even if you fail, starting over is almost the best thing there is to the game.

Try the demo since as far as i know it's the whole game just a few updates back but i'm not 100% sure on this.

Really fun game and a steal for this price.

There are different modes to play. Either you want to get a challenge where you have to pay rent at the end of each week which is increasing over time, or you can play in free mode where there's no rent and you can just chill or learn the game.
There's a challenge mode too but i havent tried that one yet.

Some people in the reviews dont like it because there's no tutorial but in this game i think it's part of the roguelike element.
You try it, you fail, you learn what you can do better in the next run.

i can easily recommend this game. i think it will get boring at some point once you learned everything there is too it, but at this point you will have spent many hours. Maybe the dev can add some new modes that make it a little more diverse by adding more buffs and debuffs that you get more often so each run feels more unique

If you're looking at the number of hours i put into this game, you're probably wondering "why would this guy give this game a negative review?"

It's quite simple : this game is 100% pay to win.

i loved this game my whole life. i'm 32 and i grew up with it. So when they announced this game, i was HYPED.
At first it was fun and i loved it. But the longer the developers keep working on it, the worse and worse it gets.

The problem with this game can be summarised in 3 letters..DLC.

Within the last few years, the devs released a bunch of dlcs. at first i thought cool..new civs and i even bought two of them.
But the problem became obvious pretty quickly. With each dlc, they introduced more and more ridiculously overpowered civilizations and it's super obvious what they are doing.

People who dont really care about this game and start playing multiplayer matches will get crushed by these overpowered dlc civs and they will think to themselves : oh i should get this dlc so i'm able to cheat too. Cause that's all that is..cheating. So the devs keep making these dlcs cause they smell money. But you're destroying the game and it's a real shame cause it's one of the best games ever made.

Whenever i'm playing with my friends in a team and we see that our enemies play one of these dlc civs, we're immediately annoyed and it's getting to the point where i want to just quit playing even though i dont know what else to play.

So if you want to join the aoe community and you're not sure..just dont. you're only going to get frustrated

The biggest issue for me is that after just a few minutes into a run. the whole screen is occupied by red, yellow,green, blue, orange etc..in other words : you can't see sh*t and you run into enemies and enemy attacks all the time because you didn't see them.

Other than that it lacks the soul that's ironically in it's name. vampire survivors and various other games of this genre are more fun

It's one of these games that you play once for about 10-12 hours and then never touch again.
It's fun for about 5-6 hours cause you expect more mechanics to be just around the corner but they never come. there's no depth to the management part even though that's all there is. you just fight and level up, beat the next arena to get access to new gear which is all the same. For example there's a +6 attack sword, after the next arena, you can buy a +14 spear, after the next arena there's a +20 dagger and so on. No real variety.
The troop variety is okay to be fair but "random" traits could feel a little more meaningful.
