Drug Dealer Simulator is a unique indie game I would highly recommend for people who are looking for something different.

Negatives:

Let's get the obvious out of the way first: DDS is a debut indie game. Not only did the devs have to do without a AAA budget, but they also learned by doing. And while the devs listened to feedback from fans, implementing most suggestions would’ve required a complete overhaul of the game. So many of these suggestions were incorporated into the development of DDS2.

As such, if you’ve bought DDS2 and are here to see where it all began, be aware that many of the features you probably take for granted aren’t here.

You will do most tasks yourself, manually. So be prepared for repetition and tedium.

The tutorials are spotty—especially when it comes to mixing product. Each product is different, and you WILL NEED GUIDES to help you not OD clients. Even a few in game lines of dialogue to walk you through your first mix would’ve been INSANELY helpful. And when it comes to things like addiction mixes, premixes, gang mixes… Well, I’m beating the drum kind of hard, but you get the idea. Mixing product is a science, and neither I nor the MC voice-over remember high school chemistry class.

The same thing goes for the quests. There isn’t any hand holding. Again, even a few in-game lines of dialogue—Like, on the Psychedelics mission: “Hey, what’s that candle doing there? That could be the signal. Go on, check it out! The message has to be in a container somewhere.”--would’ve helped. And I mean a lot. Again, check the DISCUSSIONS tab on the Community Hub for quest guides. You. Will. Need. Them.

And the AI spotting for the police can be downright off. Sometimes, cops won’t be able to see you close to them. Other times, they will spot you through the 3 inch sliver between the two buildings you were hiding behind.

Positives:

STORY: DDS is a game that defied convention. Where the boldness of the devs was joined by a player base that wouldn’t let YouTube demonetization and social stigma keep us from sharing the game with others. And that shines through starting with the concept. The story isn’t ham-fisted—we get just enough to justify TRAPs and why there are no weapons, sector lock downs, and curfews. But I hope the social situation with TRAPS is explored more in future sequels, and how these events affected people who will likely need our product to cope.

As for the game, you go from small fry to running the show—and who doesn’t love that?

MIXING: Yes, there is a trick to mixing. But making your own mix is awesome and something I find enjoyable. Moreover it really reflects your personality: Are you a perfectionist who goes for quick addiction mixes, then cheap addict mixes to maximize profit? Are you a poison peddler looking to cause trouble? Or are you the one who knocks on that and makes the purest, safest universal mix knowing that clients will (eventually) get hooked on a quality product, and forever remember your name?

SELLING: To be honest, this is the experience that I bought the game to simulate. Meeting clients, making the sales, allying with dealers, setting prices—Dealing is literally the name of the game.

TL;DR

I thoroughly enjoyed the game and, as of writing this review, I am eagerly awaiting the sequel to get my next fix.

For fans who love the 4x genre and are looking for a good single player experience, it's enough to look over Stellaris' unresolved bugs, poor end game performance, bad multiplayer experience, and never-ending balance issues.

I'm not going to stop paying for DLC or stop playing Stellaris, because I'm a 4x addict. But I cannot recommend this game to new players or those unfamiliar with 4X. If you aren't already playing Stellaris, I recommend you try another 4x game. Paradox's pricing model is outright savage to newcomers. The in-game tutorials are on par with strategy games from the 1990s--In other words, they are so inadequate that you need a 3rd party guide an inch thick to really learn to play this game effectively.

I want to like this game. I have given it multiple chances. Heck, I will even check in on it every so often to see if I can change this review - because I want to give this game an awesome review.

But in it's current state Bannerlord is just too shallow in its game play: So much so that it's propped up entirely by its modding scene.

Unfortunately, the modding support for this game is lacking. And my favorite feature of Steam (its on-the-spot auto-update) works against me with Bannerlord on the mod front. That's because every update, no matter how minor, breaks the mods I use to play. And rollbacks to previous versions have proven buggy for me.
